Hey..

Trying out iTunes Movie Rentals for the first time.

Hired a chick-flick for my better half... It will only play via iTunes (Expected) however when selecting 'full screen'
for playback it goes back to the main gui.  I can hear the movie soundtrack in the background.

There's no other video output connected and the PC can only see our Samsung TV.

It's a bit annoying having to watch the movie with the iTunes toolbar on screen.  Any ideas?

Bit of a pain if you don't get true fullscreeen mode. But what else do you expect from proprietary software. Sure there's no way to disable in options?

Otherwise, ah, ah-um: transcode it, watch it with preferred software player, then delete it.

Was that at default preferences? Or did you have to adjust an option? What version iTunes? Latest, I assume.

I have had no problems with ITunes and full-screen movies. I have used various version including the latest 9.x with no issues. I assume you have checked that it is not playing in a Window in the background somewhere?
I also assume that you are going to full screen using the option in the ITunes video menu at the bottom of the video screen, not the top right corner?

When I went full screen, the movie disappeared. Could still hear the audio though. The main gui showing. I did a alt-tab to go through the open screens but the video no where to be found.

No straight answer from iTunes yet... though they have given me a credit.

What type of resolution are the rentals? Any form DRM? Or video/audio restrictions. ie. is this form of movie renting recommended by you guys? Won't hi-jack the thread any further Laughing Cheers.

Can't recall offhand. Wasn't HD though (which was one of my complaints to Apple as rentals aren't clearly labelled as to what is HD and what isn't). It was on par with DVD quality. Yes, DRM is involved as as soon as you start to play it, you can continue to watch it for 48 hours. After this time it is deleted (as rental has ended). IF you don't watch it, you have up to 30 days before the rental expires.

I had similar problem and it turned out to be a known issue with some sort of conflict in windows vista or W7 if you have changed the on screen font size from default.

No, that was to do with the taskbar remaining on screen in full screen mode.  Sorted that out before I used iTunes.  We're talking about the video not even showing in full screen, but I can hear the audio.

Yep exactly the issue I was having - specifically with Itunes - fixed it by reverting font size to default - plenty of info if you google it.

HD content is limited to the Apple TV in all countries (with the exception of trailers). I suspect it's because people will start downloading HD versions without realizing that you need hardware acceleration in your PC for it not to stutter. Sucks for people that know what they are doing, but saves Apple a lot of tech support.

Wrong. HD Content is available on iTunes movies for select content - for example I have Quantum of Solace in HD.

I was told by iTunes employee via email that HD content is not available in NZ, unless it's via Apple TV.

I have an iTunes U.S. account - so probably some content is not available in NZ. And I bought the content.
