I'm grabbing the XMLTV listings from a site.  (for the sake of argument, we'll talk about the freeview listings at http:/epgnz.000a.biz/... )

I then want to use epgstream to get the xmltv listing turned into lovely windows media center friendly EPG data for my vista machine.

The story so far: I've entered the http:/epgnz.000a.biz/freeview.xml.gz address into the epgstream, but I'm havnig the same problem as mdp over in this post.  I've got I've put http:/epgnz.000a.biz/freeview.xml.gz into both the source channel and data URL entries.  I've got no idea what to put in the XMLTV setup screen when it asks for the the URL file format and URL date format fields.

BUT - when I run the guide download, it only mostly works.  It spots the stations, ID's them correctly, and then runs through their listings and gives me "0 days" downloaded for each.

I KNOW this is wrong.  The data in the xml file is correct, and has a week's listings.  But I'm not getting them.

Any ideas?  My old EPG solution is now belly up, and the WAF factor on the media center has dropped accordingly.

Have you looked at the EPG Collector project here on Geekzone (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/freitasm/7220)?

I managed to get mine going with help from people on this site (thanks Kellysu). Essentially you don't need to use Xmltvdownload.exe

You only need to configure and run the Webguide Proxy (part of the xmltv pack you would have downloaded to get the xmltvdownload.exe file).

to test it out manually download the file you want from the source - in your case freeview.xml.gz and point the webguide proxy source (in the config screen) to that file sitting locally somewhere on your HTPC.

you can automate retrieval of the file from the source address using wget.exe (easily found on google).

I'm unsure why but xmltvdownload.exe retrieved the file just fine but wouldn't process it correctly. Bypass that step, retrieve it manually or using wget.exe and then let Webguide Proxy process the file in the exact form it existed in on the original source site.

Yep - brilliant.  As soon as I get out of my metal framed faraday cage, body corp ruled, telstra cable tv only townhouse complex, it'll be running on my media center.  Thanks for the heads up, though!

Yep, was wondering about that.  Will try!  Cheers!
