can anyone explain what happened.

i have sky dish and digi/ana antenna on the roof. there's possibly some type of box in the roof which these two share; though inside the house there are separate sockets for aerial and sky.

sky naturally goes into skybox (myskyhdi); i hooked up the aerial into the tv directly. everything works fine.

after few days yesterday i did some recabling and removed the earial from wall. tv loses SKY with message telling me the satellite signal has been lost. red signal light in the front of mysky confirms this. if i plug the aerial back into tv, skybox becomes happy again.

WTF. the antenna signal through separate cable to mysky is physically separated by meters from the aerial cable.

power cycling the mysky did not fix it. however, power cycling both my TV and mysky while the aerial is not connected to the TV now has resulted mysky again working.

my theory? there is some sort of connector box in the roof which takes its power from either my TV or mysky box. and initially it had chosen the source to be my TV.

or is mysky possessed? :D

this took another step towards even more weird.

the aerial is now not connected to mysky. all is good. but if i power down the TV (remove main) then mysky box _again_ reports with red light is has no signal.

WTFH!?

does the HDMI connection between the mysky and TV somehow cause this?

this annoys me to the limits. i do not like leaving TV even standby powered when not at home; yet i would want to record programs.

(this topic possibly became as one belonging to SKY section)

Is the Sky power feed possibly getting its earth via the TV coax?

this was brand new house early last year when i moved in.

what you're suggesting would mean the wiring is faulty; right?

it'd probably also explain why i've so far had about 50 or so lightbulbs breaking.

No not the mains wiring, but the LNB in the sat dish is powered from the sky box and needs to feed it up the coax. I was wondering if the earth (the outer part of the coax) may not be directly connected to the LNB when it goes into the splitter box you mention. Be worth getting someone from sky to take a look at it maybe.
