Hello,

I am interested in getting EPG Collector working with DVBViewer.

Has anybody here done it?

If someone could give me the steps required, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Many thanks,

Tim

It's very similar to any other type of collection.

After you have collected the data and created an xml file there is a DVBViewer addon that will import it for you. Take a look on the DVBViewer site.

I use EPG Collector with DVDViewer

Really simple just run EPG Collector to get the XML file and then use Xepg (http://www.a123.dk/) to import into DVBViewer.

You will also need to change all your channels (that you will be importing via Xepg) in DVBViewer to only use external EPG (done in the channel editor just untick the two other ones).

If you can wait a few days I can do some more detail instructions on what to do with some screenshots.

Setup of EPG Collector with DVBViewer

I do not use DVBViewer recording service, there is info on using Xepg with the recording service in the DVBViewer message board I think (http://www.dvbviewer.tv/forum/topic/20539-xepg/)

First get EPGCollector running and producing an XML file.

This is really easy just run EPGCollectorGUI.exe create a new ini file, setup your location/area, save ini file as EPG Collector.ini and then EPGCollector.exe

You should now have a tvguide.xml file in the same directory as EPGCollector.exe

Now setup Xepg
Get latest version from http://www.a123.dk/
And extract where every you want.
Run Xepg.exe
Under 1) click Add
Under XMLTV TV Data File browse for the tvguide.xml file created by EPGCollector
Under Grabber Executable browse for EPGCollector.exe
Under Grabber Working Directory browse for the directory EPGCollector.exe and tvguide.xml is in
Click Ok

This is my setup

Click Run Grabber to test that EPGCollector gets run, click ok to the windows that pop up.
Now Click Channel Pairing, this will start DVBViewer and after a while should bring up a small window click Ok and you will see the channel pairing screen
All you should have to do is click Auto Pair as channel names should be the same
Once Auto Pairing has finished you can expand on the right hand side to see what channel has been mapped to what.
Click Apply and then Exit

I have not changed any options, defaults should be fine
Click Test Import
This will start DVBViewer and update the EPG.

You should now see the EPG in DVBViewer fully populated, or will be but will then go back to only showing next 2 shows.  This is due to DVBViewer updating the EPG off air overwriting what you just imported. To stop this in DVBViewer select Channel then Channellist and from Channellist click Channel editor
Now for each of your channels select it and click on EPG and untick DVB EPG and SFI, MHW(+) EPG, leaving only External EPG ticked.  Click Apply.  Repeat for all channels.

Close chanel editor and channellist and close DVBViewer. In Xepg click Test Import to import the data again.

Now you should have a full EPG.

Xepg can be automated. click Automate specify the task you want where Xepg is and if you want to turn off PC afterwards and it will give you the command line to add to Windows task manager.  Personally I just have a shortcut on my start menu which runs Xepg and then leaves DVBViewer running and I just run this in the morning manually as it only takes a few moments to run.

Hope the above helps

What tuner are you using with Diseqc? Not all tuners are supported.

Hi again,

I got it working with my Nova-S-Plus and HVR-3000 tuners. In DVBViewer the DiSEqC settings are opposite to those in EPGCollecter (AB = BA).

That fixed it.

Another question: Getting epg from dvb-s devices is for EIT not MHEG, is this correct?

My understanding is that MHEG is only available for dvb-t in NZ, so one should always select EIT in EPGCollector when collecting EPG from satellite sources.

I got quite a few errors generated while running EPGCollector to collect MHEG from my dvb-t tuner.

"Parameter name: The IOP:IOR message is short ... Error processing DSMCC control message specified argument out of range of valid values.

Parameter name: The BIOP TAP message is short. Error processing DSMCC Control message: specified argument was out of range of valid values."

These error messages were repeated numerous times (about 40-50), but I seemed to get EPG for most channels (TV3 & TV3 +1, Stratos & Maori TV didn't get a full epg).

Overall, I'm very pleased with the result.

Thanks again for the excellent instructions.

Tim

You should use MHEG5 for both satellite and terrestrial if you are collecting NZ Freeview.

EIT is pretty much the same on satellite as MHEG5 but the MHEG5 collection should be quicker and more reliable.

The same program data is broadcast by Freeview on both satellite and terrestrial. You don't need to collect both.

Those errors could indicate signal problems. I've seen similar things with weak satellite signals.

I'm really impressed with EPGCollector. It is working beautifully.

Just a thought, and I am not Geek enough to work this out for myself, can EPG Collector be configured to collect XMLTV data from the internet?

I have found a source of XMLTV EPG data for some channels on Optus D2 including Russia Today & SCTV

http://avenard.com/iptv/EPG.html

I'd like to be able to have Australia Network, RT, NHK & SCTV in my EPG guide, and I'm guessing the only way to do that is by accessing data off the internet.

MediaPortal has an option to import the files listed in tvguide.lst. If you put the names of multiple files in there then I believe it should work. Don't know if DVBViewer has an equivalent though...

I seem to be having some trouble getting EPG Collector 4.1 to run from Xepg (Ver. 0512 beta).

When I 'run grabbers' from Xepg, EPG Collector starts but stops very quickly (less than a second). It seems like it can't find the .ini file.

I think the earlier versions of EPG Collector didn't have this problem, but then again, I am probably missing some obvious step in the configuration.

Any ideas; do I need to use some command line in Xepg, or is the issue to be addressed within EPG Collector configuration?

If Xepg runs EPG Collector it will need to run it using the command line listed in the ReadMe.

That includes the full path to the ini file.
