Hi, im getting a 42" panasonic V20 this weekend. can some one please give me the proper calibration settings for this? i will be using this tv mainly for PS3, and PC work. thanks

What are you expecting as a reply?

Depending what your connecting to the TV and the particular settings of that equipment, the calibration required will need to include those variables.

So... basically; there is no standard calibration.

Or are you meaning something else entirely?

Exactly what illicit said,

Copying someone else's settings is next to useless unless you are that person, using the same equipment, in the same environment.

You can set it to whatever makes you happy;

Try self-calibration with test discs etc,

Hire someone with the necessary equipment and ability to properly calibrate your TV.

...and wait at least 100 hours before running the calibration disc / getting it sorted.
This will allow the white levels to settle. So in the meantime, try not to do much i nthe way of gaming, try to find programmes that don't feature the black bars top and bottom... or on both sides etc.

Some people will use other folks calibration settings, but only as a starting point. For many people, turning on the 'Advance(isfccc) option under 'Setup' and switching the picture mode to 'Professional 1' will be enough. For others... tweaking is the order of the day.

If you don't know what you're doing then leave well alone.

It's all too easy to FUBAR picture quality by blind fiddling.

hi guys thanks a million for the replies. at the moment as i mentioned the TV is in a lightyly lit room, and most of the work on the unit will be done during night time with no lights. also i will mainly use it for PS 3 and blueray. i will give those calibration disks a go. just out of curiosity, does anyone own this TV and is it considered a good TV?

I have the next size up - and it's brilliant.
I have two criticisms... 1: It buzzes a little when showing very bright frames - toothpaste ads etc... but you have to have the TV muted to hear it, be sitting fairly close and be in a very quiet environment.
2: The support for codecs isn't great compared to Samsung / LG.

BUT - the picture smashes all the other Samsung / LG plasmas in the price range, and the contrast filter is teh mint.

I discovered the media player the other day, and was pleased to find it detected all the media folders on my other computers on the network. However, that quickly turned to disappointment when I found it would not play one single file it found. Even bog-standard JPGs which it would happily play on an SD Card inserted into the TV, wouldn't play over the media player. Go figure. One more thing to investigate when I get the time.

suppose when you have an HTPC or a PS3 hooked up to this thing, the issues with the Media player might disappear? how bad is the noice on this thing? ill be siitiing about two metres away from this once its all setup

Why do people do calibration? My Samsung LCD TV looks good out of the box.

My computer monitor's calibrated (via hardware/software), as I need accurate brightness color and color for when I prepare images for print. Other than that I want my images to look good, not accurate. I calibrated the LCD TV in my office that's attached to my PC, but I stopped using the profile as it looked better without it.

I'm pretty tempted by this one too -- $1398 at HN.

Does anyone know if the media file playing thingy works or not. Also (or alternately) any recommendations for a matching BD player? (Want to be able to view pictures (occasionally) and stream music (more often)

NB: Don't have a receiver with HDMI input so I guess I'll need to use the BD player as the streaming hub.

Why do you need accuracy for your work imaging but not for your TV ?

Guess it depends on whether you want realistic pictures or some fantasy world image.

It might look good out of the box - but it would look great with a calibration, after a reasonable run in period of course.
