I recently bought a hvr-4400 thinking I would start with DVB-S tuning for freeview as I didn't have
a UHF aerial but there is an old Sky dish mounted on my house.
After much stuffing around I went out and bought a UHF aerial and it works great, but I never did get the DVB-S side of things going, though I do intend to.
I borrowed a Satellite finder which I hooked up to the dish and to the hvr-4400 set the 4400 to scan for satellites and the satellite finder remained dead ie. didn't even turn on.
I understand the 4400 is supposed to send some signal through to the sat-finder that powers it.
As it didn't power up I never attempted to make an adjustment to the dish.
As a novice on satellite tuning Im thinking the LNB on the dish is dead (it is quite an old dish)
I have tried scanning on various settings that were recommended in different forums, in both WinTV v.7 and Media portal (latest version 1.1.3 I think) but the overwhelming result is a complete lack of signal.
Just wondering If I have overlooked something.
Ps. Advice like "Just be happy with freeview-HD" is always appreciated and admired but since I wrote it first here, You dont need to.
