Hi All,

Long time listener, first time caller,

I am having trouble scanning for freeview channels using Media Portal 1.2 with my HVR4400.

I know the card is working correctly and my LNB setting are right as I can successfully scan for channels using DVBViewer.

I have loaded in the Optus D1 XML and placed it into the Tuningparameters directory. MediaPortal scans through the transponders and only detects one random channel with test bars.

Has anyone else come across this problem?

As an idea only - Is the LNB being powered by the software?

That's an excellent idea. Does anyone know if there is a setting with in MediaPortal to enable / disable the power output to the LNB?

No setting for that in MP as I've never had to set it and it just worked.
On the channel scan page have you gone into the advanced settings area and set your LNB LOF?
Should 10750 or 11300.

Hi MattHNZ

What is the name of the random channel that was found? Without any further information I'd concur with CYaBro - check that you have enabled the LNB frequency overrides and use either {10750, 10750, 12750} or {11300, 11300, 12750}. Most PC tuners automatically turn the LNB power on, and MediaPortal turns it on for those that don't behind the scenes (there is no user setting).

The random channel that came up was:

Test
Provider: SC MEDIA
12637000 / 5100
(Looks like that channel has gone now)

As suggested I am using:

LOF1: 10750
LOF2: 10750
LNBSW: 12750

Hi again

12635 (or 12637) is a vertical "feed" transponder. If you can get that then you should be able to receive the other transponders. Have you got any other receivers connected to the LNB, and how are you splitting the signal?

Hi mm,

I am using a splitter coming from the sky dish. I have the power pass connector going into the mysky box (which is working) and the HVR4400 plugged into the splitter.

When using {10750,10750,12750} I am able to scan all channels and view with no problems in DVBViewer.
Strangely the WinTV 7 software that came with the card is only able to scan 7 sky channels which are on 12331 and 12358.

Do you think am looking at some kind of strange software / driver problem here?
I have a brand new install of windows 7 32bit and am using the latest 4400 drivers from the hauppauge site.

I'm running out of ideas :-(

Hi again

Okay, so theoretically the Sky box should be supplying the power to the LNB if it is a one-port-power-pass splitter. I would have thought it would be passing 18V to get you horizontal transponders all the time. If you're on Windows 7 or Windows Vista then the first thing I would do at this point is to check the "preferred network provider" setting as per the "edit tuner details" section -->here<--. Usually that setting doesn't need to be messed with, but in this case I'd recommend trying whichever setting it is not set to (either "generic" or "DVBS"). Let me know how that goes for you...

Hi All,

No go with the preferred network provider i'm afraid. I have switched it from generic to DVBS and still get the same result :-(

lnb1: 1tp- 12456000 LinearH 22500:No Signal

Dan: No go with:
LOF1: 10750
LOF2: 10750
LNBSW: 0

Just did another scan with DVBViewer on 10750/10750/12750. It has picked up 193 channels.

Keep in mind that you can only use a tuner in one application at a time - either DVBViewer or MediaPortal/TV Server, not both. Can you upload the full tv.log and error.log so I can take a look please. Megaupload or Rapidshare would do fine.

you could do the following to help rule out anything that might be interfering with MP as well

uninstall dvbviewer and the wintv software (mainly to make sure neither can access the card)

disable the microsoft media centre serivces ( can do it in mediaportal configuration program, bottom of
screen " Additional 3rd Partys Checks" section

remove the splitter and plug the cable directly into the card, bypassing the sky decoder.

restart pc, etc, and try and scan again.

Hi Dan,

I have MS media services turned off.

As a test I opened DVBViewer and then attempted a scan in MediaPortal, it just ran through the channels really fast and the tv.log file indicated the card was in use.

This is different to the normal scanning behaviour; which takes a lot longer.

I presume this rules out the card is being accessed by another program?

should be, no harm to remove them tho, especially if they have apps running in background/startup

did you try plugging direct into the satelitte card bypassing the sky decoder and splitter?

hopefully mm1352000 will be able to help you, he is the leading developer for tv server in MP!

if not you have an alternative but can continue to use Mediaportal, theres another TV server called Argus which works great with MP. its part of For the Record plugin.
