Hi there,

I have recently joined Vodafone with their broadband services, I have a Apple Airport Express which I have plugged into the back of my stereo so I can play music from iTunes over my wireless network through my speakers. The issue I am having is that the Vodafone modem is blocking the signal from the airport express. I rang Voda and they said I needed to change the channel on the modem, which I logged in a changed to channel 5, but it still keeps cutting out, any tips?

I used to have a non wireless modem from telecom and used the airport to make the network wiresless and had no problems

What channel is the modem using? I'd stick with 1, 6 and 11. Also, could be some interference from neighbouring sites coming into effect to. Try a wifi analyser to see what is currently in use, there might be one for your phone or a laptop etc.

Hi, as Bazzer says if the original channel was an issue and was on 6 and you changed to 5 then you achieved nothing, there are only 3 non overlapping channels (ie that can be used in the same environment that will not upset each other) these are 1, 6, and 11 so have each on one of those channels.

Hi, I find inSSIDer is good, but before going there probably putting the two units on non overlapping channels is a goer, if you are in a crowded city environment then do a scan about.

If the airport express was working before, why don't you just turn off the wireless on the vodafone modem? Then you would be back to more or less the same configuration as you had before.

That's a good idea, I hadn't thought of that, thank you. Re the WiFi analyser, what site would I download this app or software from? Apple don't seem to like featuring apps on their app store!

Ah, sorry its for Windows only, but as wongtop mentioned just turn the voda WiFi off if the express was what worked for you previously

I have the same setup but no issues - both set to automatic for the channels, when I lived in an apartement where I could pick up 50-60 wifi networks I occasionally had an issue. AirRadar will let you know what channels are popular (I think that's what it's called) if you want to pick your own.
