I am in need of a new gaming tv my one is years old ( 21inch Teac crt ) iv only just got my ps3 and I cant read the small writing like players names etc in battlefield 3 , and its getting annoying when I use a headset and i cant help out my squad mates.

I use my ps3 in my room so I was thinking something like a 32inch. Also will be using it as a normal tv / movie.

Iv done some reading today and from the posts iv seen it looks like I should not buy a 50mhz or 60mhz tv because of motion blur and i should get one that is at least 100mhz ,

Price wise id be looking at around $800ish or less if I can help it, basically if I can spend less money I will but if it comes down to it and there is really nothing for that price I don't mind spending a little more.

Also seen that I shouldn't get a plasma because of image burn from long use and thats what ill be doing its not uncommon for me to be on games for long hours at a time

Thanks for your help in advance

If you aren't fussed about 3D then you can get a pretty much top of the line 32" TV for $800

I'd go for either Sony or Samsung.  I have a Sony 42" and it is absolutely mint.

In fact you should avoid using these 100hz "Motionflow" features for gaming as it will increase your input lag, something you may notice when gaming, particularly if gaming online. You'll want to make sure there is a game/pc/text mode, which actually turns off these processing features.

Each tv is different for input lag, if you have a search online re: input lag, this will help you find a good gaming tv.

What he said. Disable as much of their processing features as possible. My older TV had the "game" mode buried in the low-level settings menu and it set it for _all_ inputs which was annoying, my current one has the setting per-input but I've got most of the video processing disabled anyway (I can't see much difference anyway) and I let the receiver do the heavy lifting as it seems to make less of a hash of it.

I'd agree with the Sony or Samsung sentiment, but some of the LG's are worth a look from what I've seen.

If it's mainly going to be used with a PS3, you might want to lean more towards a Sony as IIRC there was a feature on the PS3 that only worked with Sony screens (but it might've been a generic HDMI feature that just had a Sony name tacked onto it, so it'd pay to do your homework on that one).

The Sony would be my pick of the two... but for a TV that came out in 2010, I'd want it for under the price they listed there. Look at an LG - from memory, most have game mode.

My preference still lies with Samsung televisions. They are able to play almost any digital file format from a USB key/portable hard drive which is very handy if you do not want/have a home theatre setup.

If that is not important to you I would need to know if you have any brand preferences. If not, I would still suggest Samsung as the most cost effective option.

My suggestions are:
32" - UA32D5000
40" - UA40D5500

Don't bother getting anything more than 100Hz, the human eye cannot perceive any difference between 100Hz and 200Hz. It is pure marketing.

Haggle and get written quotes from a couple of stores and you will get an excellent deal.

Remember to ask yourself if you need anything else before you head into the store, you you need HDMI/optical/VGA leads, wall mounts, cleaning equipment and any of the dozen other addons they will try and sell you.

Consider an extended warranty; are you someone who would like to make a single short phone call to have a faulty television replaced or do you not mind a little effort on your part talking with the manager and/or manufacturers to have it replaced.

yeah something I forgot to mention is that the Sony TVs have a really nice feature that links with the PS3.

basically you can use your TV remote to control the PS3 (not very useful for gaming obvoiously,  but handy for using menus and multimedia etc)

Tens of millions of people across this planet enjoy gaming on their plasmas. Some of them are playing on them right now and enjoying significantly better response times than their LCD/LED counterparts...

Its difficult to do long-term damage to a modern plasma. Image retention does happen, but it doesn't last long.
I've had 6 hour+ sessions on my plasma with games that feature a persistent hud with a compass and health bars etc and I've never had anything that hasn't cleared away.

Unfortunately price puts it out of the running as an option for you.
