Hi all

I have a few MP4s which MediaInfo says that it contains 6 channel AAC audio.

The problem is that my amp only receives a stereo signal from these files.

But when I play a MKV file my amp screen says DTS or Dolby Digital.

Is there any codec that will convert the AAC audio to an Amp understandable format on the fly (which I believe is AC3) instead of having to convert the files audio.

I use Media Center on Windows 7 64bit
- Intel i3-2100 3.1ghz processor
- Asus P8H61-M Pro motherboard
- 1 x 4gb Ram
- 550w PSU
- Geforce 210 video card 512mb

I use the motherboards optical S/Pdif connector to a Pioneer VSX-915 amp.

Thanks for any help and hope the 'weather bomb' doesn't treat you guys too harshly.

Would FFDshow audio decoder be able to do that?

It can decode AAC, and encode AC3 over spdif.

Give it a try.

ffdshow should certainly do it, but you'll probably need to mess with the filters to get it working to your satisfaction.

I know XBMC can recode AAC to AC3 on the fly, as can Plex, not sure about other media players.
