drop the progdvb and dvsbridge and just use the Nova-S with the hauppauge "hack" (DVBS_AS_DVBT registry setting). I'm using the Nova-S (well, two of them) inside of both Vista MCE and XP MCE no problem. I can tune all the freeview channels and radio, plus some of the non-encrypted radio on the sky frequencies.

PM me with email address and I can send you the reg files i used to load the dvbs_as_dvbt and frquencies into the registry. Tell me whether you have a 10750 or 11300 mhz lnb too so i can send the right file.

If i can get one, and people are confirming it works in NDSCam under mediaportal, im hopefully going to go the whole hog with a HVR-4000 card, and try and tune in the HD channels as well.

It dosn't work perfect under mediaportal though just be aware :) there's this problem

Q When selecting a channel for viewing in MediaPortal, the first "No Video Audio Detected" error needs to be dismissed. Selecting the same channel again, video and audio plays with no further errors. Why?

This is a drawback of MediaPortal's architecture. MediaPortal trys to play the channel and since it is encrypted, it gives out the above error because it is unable to play the video/audio stream. The moment MediaPortal realises it can infact play the video/audio stream, it stops the relevant plugin from decrypting. One solution to this problem is to set up the EPG grabber to 'grab whilst idle' and do not select an encrypted channel until EPG grabbing begins. In order to grab the EPG, MediaPortal will also begin decrypting the channel. This solution works well if you only use one provider, however with both bev and dish for example, the problem still exists and cannot be solved until a fundamental piece of MediaPortal's architecture is altered.

And occasionally you get a "channel scrambled error" when changing channel which can be annoying. Hopefully these problems will clear up in future. Did get it to record Discovery from standby though which was cool.

Wahoo, got it going in Mytheatre last night. Turns out that it was the cable.

I had pilfered a serial header from an old computer(my new motherboard didn't have a serial port on the back) and didn't realise that there are two different ways these can be wired to the socket(probably manufacturer dependent). Of course I had the wrong one. Hooked up a DSE usb to serial I had in a box, loaded the drivers for it and hey presto the card reader just worked.

Some more testing now to see if I can get it thru to media center reliably using Dvbsbridge.

Cheers for the confirmation I was on the right track and the heads up about your cable problem Wafflemaker. Just the nudge I needed to investigate a little deeper and not be suspicious of my soldering ability.

One possible suggestion for those stuck with 17xx cards. I only got my blue 45xx card when I had a problem with my old decoder. (not sure of the model number, but the original black Pace ones) I had reception problems (pixelling, freezing etc) and asked Sky for a techician to call to check it out. He put it down to using 2.4 ghz cordless phones and/or our home wifi. He issued us with a new decoder (small, silver one) and luckily that needed a new card. No guarantee that it will get you a 45xx card but possibly worth a try?

bdabuild: Hopefully I can help as I've been trying to get sky to work in VMC too and had to solve this for myself.

Prog 4.9 accesses old b1 Satellite frequencies contained in a file in the transponders directory under ProgDvb directory.

You need to go to the 1600.ini file and edit the data in there to match the newer d1 Satellite frequency info. Also rename the optus B1 to D1 and it will be more obvious when you start up Prog.

You can find the new freqs by going to www.lyngsat.com/optusd1.html website. Edit these into 1600.ini and you should be able to scan for the freeview channels as well as the sky channels(if you included them in the .ini) .

Now since I've been able to help someone.... I'm also now stuck and got a question for Rusty.

Ive got freeview working, i've got a 45xx card and built the Jaycar reader but I'll be buggered if I can get the NdsCam to read my sky card through the Jaycar. The log file keeps saying the ATR can't be read.

I've tried both Progdvb and I am currently using MyTheatre but neither will access the card.

Did you have to modify the card reader as per the austech forums to get it to work or is there some driver to load for the card reader? I'm at a loss as I've tried to get this to work for a few weeks now and have run out of ideas. Mind you I did manage to sort thru the probs as outlined above.

Hope someone can help or give me some pointers of where to look.

Hey Dude, I got mine running in the weekend with my new 45xxx card and the jaycar decoding sky in ProgDVB v4.xxx The key is get yourself a copy of ndscam 0.0.0.5 it also says 0.0.0.5.xmas I think I could not get .6 or .7 working with 45xxx card.

Once you copied the dll and ini etc "all files from the cam zip file" to the plugins folder of ProgDVB (must also be stopped) edit the ini file and set card type=3 and leave every other setting default. You should be away....

I'm still working on getting DVBSBridge working with ProgDVB but won't be too far away...

(not sure of the model number, but the original black Pace ones) I had reception problems (pixelling, freezing etc) and asked Sky for a techician to call to check it out. He put it down to using 2.4 ghz cordless phones and/or our home wifi. He issued us with a new decoder (small, silver one) and luckily that needed a new card. No guarantee that it will get you a 45xx card but possibly worth a try?

We had 2x old Motorola ones, I phoned our friends and asked to get them replaced as I can't get it going with Media Center. The lady on the phone was very helpful (with some sweet talking) I was ablt to get her to issue a job to replace both with Pace decoders (new ones small silver) I also asked her to put on the job sheet I need also 2x 45xxx cards with these decoders as I also need it for Media Center.

Cost me $79.81 to get 2x new Pace units with 2x 45xxx cards..

Hey Dude, cheers for the offer got it going in the weekend. With ProgDVB 4.89.6 and NDSCAM 0.0.0.5 with the jaycar reader so having Freeview and SKY working on NOVA-S Plus card. Sweet picture... took some messing with but worth it I think :-)

I think the best / only argument is to say you have a new High Def TV, and wanted the small silver pace box which has component out. And am prepared to pay for the $40 upgrade. They will send a sky tech out, and that is the time you make sure he doesn't leave until he gives you a silver pace + 45. As the 45's are "supposed" to not work in any other box other than the MySky HDI (which has a 45 as well from what I saw last week) and the small silver pace (DS230?). However the 17's work fine in the new silver Pace so you need to make sure the installer swaps the cards as well. Assertive, but vague is the name of the game. "Oh I hear that the blue cards change the channels faster". And I don't even subscribe to sky.....

Yes, the card/s are 45xxx cards and yes it works with ProgDVB. You will not get a 45xxx card with a motorola decoder as the only decoder that supports Rev 1/2/3 cards is the small silver pace decoder. The older Pace & Motorola decoders only support Rev 1/2 (GOLD & DARK BLUE) 17xxx cards.

If you get your Motorola decoder swapped out (they will becuase it is old and they want to get rid of them) it will cost you $39 for the job and just explain the motorola does not work with Media Center and you also need to 45xxx series card also. Make sure when the guy comes around he gives you a 45xxx (they normally have a folder or bos of cards).

Like I said, I had 2x Motorola Decoders with 17xxx cards (DARK BLUE) and they swapped it out (Well only one as the guy ran short on stock but the other is due this weekend).

Called Sky and made an appointment for a technician to come around tomorrow to replace it for $29.95. I'll see if I can get a 45XX card.

If I happen to find the card I lost, I can return it to Sky for a full refund of the $29.95. That is very nice of them.

Well, the Sky installers just been. I was told earlier that it was an actual Sky employee and not a contracter to Sky. So my hopes of talking him into a 45XX card decreased slightly.

He came in, pulled out two Sky Cards (one was blue, the other was gold) saw my little silver Pace DS230 decoder, and turned over the blue one to write down the details on the job sheet. I glanced over his shoulder and saw the magic numbers 45 on it!!

I didn't have to say diddly to him, and decided not to say anything else but "thanks mate". He charged me $29.90 for the trouble.

I have a 45XX card now!!!!

Funny thing was though, as soon as he left, I managed to find my old 17XX card. If only I had found it before he turned up. Oh well, at least I can return the old card to Sky and get a full refund on my $29.90.
