what the hell? If it has nothing to do with Sky how can they have a legal leg to stand on?

The fact that a big corporation can bully you with the _threat_ of legal action is rediculous!!

Yeah, what an abominable abuse of power. Watch out for SKY to ban screwdrivers in case someone opens their decoder and messes with it!

They probably don't have a legal leg to stand on. The problem, as several people have said already, is that it's Reven's butt on the line if he chose not to comply with the takedown order.

The fact is that big corporations can - and do - bully the little guys with empty threats all the time. It costs money to defend the threats, and that's money and risk the little guys can't afford. Welcome to your legal system...

TBH, unless someone develops something on the quiet and distributes it...the only other way is to use satellite directly.

I set up the site recently, and all I had to do was mention "non-profit" and they gave me permission practically instantly (albeit only for Prime & and only for the current day).

Otherwise, to show all shows & all days, it's a rather large cost for a non-profit of $2000 a month.

Can someone please zip it up and upload to piratebay plz i really need my epg data my series recording since it doesn't know whats on!!!

This could a great issue for Geoff Palmer (NZ PC World mag) to sink his teeth into. He loves a fight with the big guys (ie. Telecom, to name one).

Seems to me this is a pretty salient point. Anything with Revens name on it is going to get Sky after him, and clearly he does not want or need the hassle.

Personally I don't agree with piracy, and don't have pirated warez, BUT I'm a paid subscriber to sky, and I don't want to use their mysky. As we all know, it has piss poor functionality compared with a decent HTPC, but a guide is an integral part of this. In situations like this I say stuff em, time for someone to upload what needs to be uploaded way off shore and take it from there. This time not a google code page with Revens namke all over it. I really don't know how this is done (and so far my guide still working fine), but I imagine there are a few folk reading this thread that know what to do.

Any takers?

BTW, MicroSoft, "Where the bloody hell are you?" Finally have a really good OS, shipping with mediacentre all over the place, but no balls to make it work for the PC ower. Surely the battle for the living room needs to be fought now?

This actually sounds like a viable alternative (I personally have no interest in the Sky channels as I'm no longer a subscriber and don't want to be)

Sorry to be obtuse but can you just clarify, I'm using a DVB-T tuner, not satellite, does this pull epg data from the UHF feed as well?!?

I saw somewhere that there's 90,000 sky subscribers. What is the number using HTPC?

My internal cynicism points at the small numbers (NZ - at the of the SXC ...) here in Godzone that would tend to elicit not a lot of interest from Redmond ....

I think it's 900,000. I paid and ran XPMCE, then VistaMCE now W7MCE. Now while most people who will get Win& over the next few years won't use the medicentre, for those of us who do an important part of the software that cost $ for is not working unless geek fixed. So, I do see this as MS being weak as well as Sky being a bully.

How much would it cost MS to buy the right to publish to the EPG?

Around $2000/month, say $25k/year (according to Cody's post above), and this sounds like the same cost as when I investigated this exact issue with TVNZ back in the days of XPMCE (that was when TVNZ was guarding the EPG rights, not Sky - funny how things change but still stay the same...).

I work in a tech/marketing role, and to me this still sounds like the cheapest campaign for Microsoft ever, not to mention a great positive brand impact.
