For anyone who is interested, I have discovered that it would appear if you have backed-up your existing xmltvnz folder & have retained the files generated by your xmltvnz.bat file before sky forced Reven to take-down his site -W@#$%^rs- you can still operate your EPG.

I am assuming this because I have reinstalled an earlier Ghost image to rectify an issue & could not access the xmltvnz site from a new install. I had to install my previous generated files & then I could update my EPG.

If anyone needs these files, PM me & I will give you a download link: &

Sky. But these do NOT include any Sky Analogue channels, as I've never used their site. Just the Freeview ones-& JuiceTV.

My understanding of the impacts are that if you already had XMLTNZ installed then everything would continue to work (which it does) until such time as one or more of the TV Guide websites change their layout, at which time an update to the config file will be required, which in the past was automatic, but not after the takedown.

I'm sure reven mentioned that most of the websites have not changed their layouts for quite some time, so the existing config file will hopefully continue to do the job for a while yet at least..

Someone correct me if I am wrong..

Assuming reven has decided he will keep it up to date (or anyone with the requisite knowledge) then it would just be a matter of downloading the latest version if needed

I checked the other night and couldn't find a website for C42 listings anywhere... Is it really needed though seeing as it's 24/7 music videos that don't seem to have any rhyme or reason to their order?

oh yes, i think you might be right.

C42 will be launched on May 1st, to celebrate the start of NZ Music Month and will offer New Zealand music considerable representation with a commitment to up to 30 per cent local content.

C42 will feature back to back alternative music videos, without hosts.

Still it would be good if the epg creater could put in "24 hr music videos" into the epg guide, then it woud look a lot tidier in the onscren epg.

Why not just use the MHEG5 grabber? That solves all your issues!

Hi.

I've updated the channels.xml file for c42.

While the MHEG tool is impressive (and by impressive, I do mean holy cow, that's awesome), I'm led to believe that 1. it won't update while a tuner is in use, and 2. if ever the MHEG application changes, the tool will stop working.
Issue 1 is a showstopper for many users.
Issue 2 is as much a reality for my tool as it is for for any other that relies on an unsupported data source.
However, the freeview website data has been accessible now for close to 2 years. The FreeviewToXMLTV app has been largely untouched since then.

Future modifications might bring an automatic new channels feature.

I'll continue to support the tool as long as people ask for support.

Around $2000/month, say $25k/year (according to Cody's post above), and this sounds like the same cost as when I investigated this exact issue with TVNZ back in the days of XPMCE (that was when TVNZ was guarding the EPG rights, not Sky - funny how things change but still stay the same...).

I work in a tech/marketing role, and to me this still sounds like the cheapest campaign for Microsoft ever, not to mention a great positive brand impact.

I'm not sure if Cody's information would apply to Microsoft. It seemed they offered him/her one day of Prime for free as a non profit. Presuming they knew he/she was a non profit, any price quoted for the complete guide may have been targetted to that so it's not clear to me if the $2k would apply to something like MS. That's assuming they would deal with Microsoft at all, AFAIK, we don't really know why Sky is being so fussy about the EPG perhaps it's partially because they don't like people running their own PVRs (even though they seem to have ignored the decoding Sky if you have a smart card issue which they may be pushing people to if they continue to lock down their EPG and people buy DVB-s cards). If so, they may not be willing to let MS have their guide.

BTW although I can't recall if it was in this thread, when someone suggested EIT was a standard so they couldn't stop transmitting it I mentioned that they probably could do something like Freeview does on DVB-T by transmitting MHEG-5 but only now and next information on EIT (Freeview don't do it for DVB-S but AFAIK the stated reason is because of the large number of existing boxes) if they really had to transmit anything on EIT. So I didn't see any reason why Sky couldn't encypt the guide if they wanted to, except their boxes likely couldn't handle it. I've now found out Sky in the UK does something like this albeit they guide isn't encrypted, see http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/UK_Television & http://www.dvbviewer.info/forum/index.php?showtopic=40551 for example. At least we do have EIT!
