Summary for those having problems getting an EPG source:

Current working EPG Data sources:

http://nzepg.org/freeview.xml.gz
http://epgnz.000a.biz/ (appears to have several sources including SKY)
http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/Djkxml (scrapes websites for data like revens XMLTVNZ)

Tools and Guides:

RVanGelder's FreeviewToXMLTV

Getting XMLTV info into Vista, use guide service proxy:
http://epgstream.net/default.aspx?page=software-xmltv-guidepack

Getting XMLTV info into Windows 7, use Big Screen EPG:
http://bigscreenglobal.com/bgproduct.aspx?PID=BSEV1

I have no idea about Media Portal etc...  probably much easier than Windows.

For any Eye TV 3 users here's an updated automator app which downloads the freeview.xml file from http://epgnz.000a.biz/, opens eyetv, updates the xmltv listings then deletes the residual xml file before closing.

You can open it up in Automator to see what it does.

Tested and working in Snow Leopard.

Enjoy.

paulfransen: My EPG on my Mac is up and running again.

I used epg.pvt.geek.nz for my EyeTV guide until Yesterday and I've now switched to nzepg.org.

Below is the link to download my Apple Script that downloads the EPG, and loads into EyeTV. It also sends a growl notification if you have that installed.

Thank You, for saving me hours of di*cking around, works perfectly on my eyetv3.3, back up and running guide.

Trying out the Sky guide from http://epgnz.000a.biz/ - it looks great but seems to be missing listings for Cartoon Network and the Crime & Whateveritis channel, as well as TV3+1 (which I assume is because that's in the Freeview file). Has anyone been using this file for a while and noticed if this is only a temporary glitch?

I use the Sky data from this source and works fine for me, I found Crime & Investigaion is called CI and X0419... anways its there and no glitches for me.  Is TV3+1 available on Sky or are you using a combination of sky and freeview? I haven't seen it.

I guess you could you use an XMLTV combining tool from epgstream to get the data combined from the freeview and the sky data.

I think your right, it seems the guide data for the channels on transponder 12519 are missing. Anyone know why that might be?

I see TV3+1 is there now... and cartoon network, and a couple of others that were missing on my VMC. Obvioulsy didn't miss them too much, as I didn't notice.

I've downloaded epgstream and I'm trying to set it up with the http:/epgnz.000a.biz source. Can anyone tell me what I need to enter into the xmltvdownload config for this source? I've put http:/epgnz.000a.biz/sky.xml.gz into both the source channel and data URL entries. I can read the channel list but consistently get no program data downloaded.

I've probably made a very simple error but after half a day of searching the epgstream forum and here I can't find anything on how to configure the epgstream xmltvdownload app for sources other than the pre-configured aussie ones.

Thanks,

Mike

Just a reminder folks that there's a couple of guys working on a solution for Windows that grabs the information from the MHEG5 stream on Freeview|HD - a solution for people like me who uses Freeview|HD only (DVB-T). Stay tuned.

Am I missing something? is there some reason why http://www.haventech.co.nz/epg/  doesn't do the job? It works great for me (but perhaps my requirement is small enough for an easy match) ?

Is it because you state http:/ instead of http:// (or was that just a typo here)?

Thanks Tr3v - my post has typo's - sorry. Made typo with first reference and compounded it by good old copy paste. The config file has http://epgnz.000a.biz/sky.xml.gz in the channel and data URL entries. I'm successfully reading channel info and I'm able to select which channels to download but every time I get back a message saying 0 days downloaded.what is supposed to be in the URL file format and URL date format fields?

Thanks,

Mike

Is the date and time correct on your computer? I can confirm that the sky.xml.gz file is fine as I am using it myself.  Are you using MCE or another PVR? My I suggest posting your question in another forum specific to your setup, or if you are using Media Center, you can send me a message and I can help.
