I personally use a harmony universal remote, so most of my device remotes don't leave the packaging/box.
Receiver remote wise I only really need on/off, volume and mute as I typically stay on the same 'sound processing' setting (usually stereo for music) and the harmony remote takes care of on/off and input selections etc anyway.

I mention this, as receiver remotes are notoriously complicated and whilst flexible and capable and all, this typically means lower WAF ratings.

The new Denon's look pretty darned simple, and as a lot of them have smartphone / tablet apps... the usability is streets ahead of the old ones. It's certainly worth having a play with!
Receiver GUI's won't be far away from being all together useless to be honest, the apps really do make for some pretty simple operation.

Yeah its too bad the 2113 is so lacking on analogue ports - it only JUST covers what we need, and while its unlikely to add more analogue devices, you never know and the lack of expansion on such an expensive product is a huge disappointment.

What part of the country are you in? If Auckland I have a retailer in mind that stocks Pioneer, Denon and Yamaha that I have used in the past. They provided a one on one comparison between the different types and were very knowledgeable about their products.

But seriously, I'd rather have better power supplies than composite / SVGA / component connectability.
They're all looking to hit price points and compromise has to begin somewhere - and that's where Denon have obviously drawn their line. Power is often an area purposefully grey'd over by manufacturers in favour of gimicks (try finding accurate power stats for the new entry level Pioneer AVR's... they won't list how many channels are driven, sometimes leaving out THD figures).

HDMI (like it or not) is king, the only reason I can see for RCA inputs is so that users can send analogue audio inputs to zone 2. Other than that, I'd pick sound quality first, HDMI second, networking 3rd, usability 4th, aesthetic appeal 5th, b-speaker connectivity 6th... and somewhere at the back of the field would be RCA inputs.

Quite liking my Onkyo NR809, the Android/iOS app to control it is pretty cool. Functionality is good, audio quality is good, price was good (given that it's a mid-range model).

There isn't too many devices but:
Record player (separate pre amp)
Wii
3.5mm input from laptop or phone
Dvd recorder

All using RCA input. We barely use the dvd recorder so it doesn't warrant the upgrade. But it's handy to have. I don't use the record player personally but I have no say in that one

Got the Yamaha RX-V673 from Harvey Norman for $1099. Pretty good price. It's working nicely so far!

Interesting. Their 'special' promoted price is $1399....... Clearly a bit of a margin still in there.

Yeah a friend tried their iphone yesterday, airplay even turned it on when Network Standby is enabled - didn't have to use the app.

Im using the android app, media streaming from the phone to the amp is broken in android 4 and above but hopefully thats fixed soon. Selecting content on a DLNA server such as our router works nicely.
Everythings going pretty well, yet to run into any problems with it.

Yeah very impressed with the price to be honest, for such a new product.
