I guess its just the connectivity that is causing you some issues now.

It says it is a resolution pass thru converter - so I am not sure if the HDMI (from the blu-ray) signal was 1080 (ie full HD) if the TV display will down convert it to 720. Many TVs would just down convert - you would need to check if your model does.
Either that or perhaps you can set the HDMI output on the proposed blu-ray to 720p
Other than the fact that it only outputs stereo audio, the dynamix unit seems to be the similar to the HDFury and much, much cheaper. Although you have to have a punt on how good the quality is, $87 isn't a kings ransom (esp as he is springing for Bose amps). I would give that a whirl - connect component to the TV, HDMI from the Blu-Ray player to the dynamix unit, and optical out from the player directly into the amp. In fact, I'm almost tempted to order one while they are available - to put on a shelf s a backup in case my Fury fails.
$87 is pretty cheap to eke a few more years out of a TV.
