33coupe: Ah right, I thought I read somewhere about ARC not needing optical.
So the issue I have is connecting the freeview aerial to the receiver. From what I understand this cant be done, would need a freeview box for hdmi connection. Is that right?
The aerial goes directly into your TV where it is decoded by the onboard Freeview tuner. The HDMI cable connected to HDMI 2 (TV) and MAIN HDMI Out (receiver) sends the Freeview audio back to the receiver. Just press the TV/CD button on your Onkyo remote and you should have sound. There is nothing else for you to purchase. Done.
Also, as my in-laws toshiba doesnt have ARC will they need the optical cable for sky (normal sky not mysky). They have same receiver & speaker package as me.
They will need an optical cable from the Sky decoder to the receiver.
