Cheers for that - not sure why I couldn't find it in the search.

More food for thought... sounds like it might do the things I want from it, but that thread is hardly glowing. The issue is, I haven't got much money to spend, so I feel like I need to make the "right" decision.

I've had a WDTV Live Gen3

I thought it was really good.

I recommend it for streaming movies of NAS, and browsing movies via UNC network shares. It has the best quality playback + largest range of codec support out of all the stand alone players.

The library metadata function isn't very good when your used to a full blown HTPC, and I wouldn't recommend it if you want to build a meta data library function. However I'm not sure if it supports plex and I havn't tried it with plex, so the library function might be good with plex.

If you want solid playback support go for wdtv, if you require metadata look at other options + research more.

Thanks for that. It's sounding like it really is the best option for me.

I'm not all that worried about the metadata side of things - haven't had it until now, so don't know what I'm missing, I guess!

I'll hunt out a good deal on it.

Have you looked into the Pivos Xios DS? I just ordered one from eBay, after lots of research into what to get to replace my WDTV Live. The Xios comes with android, but you can flash it with Linux XBMC. It's got some good reviews out there, and only costs US$120.
