Maybe try push harder? Pricespy price history says it has been down to $3k - in my recent experience "best we can do" isn't always... ;-)  (Though that does seem very low)

clevedon:
HowickDota: Do you know if they have any more left at HN botany?

I got the last one at Botany but another guy over at AudioEnz said his local HN Auckland store (he didn't say which one) had three left - as of yesterday.

It was HN Wairau. :(

Unfortunately, they would only go down to $3,640 and I pushed as hard as I could. Oh well, 65ST50 for $2,500 is a good enough deal for me.

Keep your 50 inch for news and general TV viewing, Panny PTAE8000 projector & 120 inch drop down screen for movie viewing. Best of both worlds!

I believe the ST60 is better in most ways, EXCEPT input lag. I seem to remember some fairly large threads on various forums talking about the input lag on the ST60. IMO they're both excellent but I think you can get better deals on the ST50s being "end of line" and all

I have read some stand alone reviews who claim that to be true ... But the only way to tell is to put the st50 the vt50 the st60 ... I guess i'll wait for christmas sales on the st60 :)

To my eyes, the ST60 replaces the GT50, just with fewer connections, no analogue audio output, slightly worse sound and no Flash support for the web browser. Most importantly, the picture quality looks good.

If the st60 and vt50 is the same price which one would you get. Hypothetical question

VT.
Lag for gaming matters to me on the occasions that my PS3 is brought out, and the 4 x HDMI is a bonus, as I run analogue amplifiers, not an audio visual receiver with multiple HDMI inputs.

If asthetics, input lag and one less HDMI input were not a factor, then the ST60 easily is the superior of the two.
It has superior contrast (deeper blacks and capable of greater light output (white). It has greater calibration controls for its most accurate picture modes and it shares the VT50's AR filter, so its performance in a room with ambient light can actually be an improvement as you cannot calibrate an accurate daymode with the GT/VT50 because of its crippled controls and contrast. (Something which they fixed in the 2013 models).

I also consider the VT50's 'One sheet of glass' design to be a negative and not an advantage over the ST60. The VT50 requires active cooling (because of the extra glass) and that brings with it extra noise that depending on a range of factors could be very disturbing. The air gap also creates additional internal reflections that can make off-axis viewing less desirable.
Thats a hell of a price to pay to have a flush-faced TV IMHO.

The lag for me is a deal-breaker. I'm also not a fan of the VT60's asthetics, so I'll be keeping my GT50 till next year. But I'd trade it in for an ST60 if that weren't the case.
