Nerdtastic:
davidcole: Why not look at a AMD A8 APU (cpu + GPU) on a AM3 Motherboard (or for slightly dearer an intel i3/i5.

+1 for the APU (although not restricted to what one you get)

I am personlly looking at building an HTPC with an APU. The server sits under the TV running Plex (maybe XBMC front?), adding a discret graphics card in crossfire with the APU. This allows me and my brother to play multiplayer with me o the desktop and him on the TV.

Other TV's can be joined with another mini PC running XBMC that grabs it all off the server.
I hope to get this ordered and built in a couple of weeks.

If plex is on the server, xbmc wont read it (as of frodo) but Plex Media centre is a GUI based off xbmc anyway which talks well to a plex server....or a raspberry pi running rasplex.

Really? I thought that as Plex was a fork of XBMC so that XBMC could grab "stuff" off a Plex server. Has this been removed in an update?

plex completely changed their library code after forking xbmc and made it a server/client setup. xbmc doesnt have a server, its all client. closest you have is a mysql server.

there is a plex addon for xbmc which lets your read the plex media library, but not a perfect solution.

ive tried rasplex once and it was extremely slow so i didnt even bother with it.

plex on the pi is pretty good, nice speed, stable, but a port of the android tablet interface so not perfect for use with a controller (eg controller triggers dont change "tabs"). but its pretty fantastic, plays everything ive tried.

plex on roku might be worth looking at, havent tried it myself.

Plexbmc I think the xbmc plugin was called doesn't work as of xbmc 12. something broke it.

Plex on pi is only as reven says, a little slow.

Roku is ok, playback is good but interface is a little clunky. Too picture based for me (but do is Netflix)

The plex media centre is ok, runs like xbmc on a PC but very well integrated. Uses the same xbmc key mappings etc. worth a look at.

.

Did you mean Oyua?
I was looking at getting one, but want to know if you can press play on a TV series and it will just play random epsidoes from that series?

I use the functionality a lot on my Win 7 Plex client. (90% for the bedoom client)
