cool, yep I no they not gospel but just thought there may be a few out there with them and a few opinions etc I have done a bit of research and a Cpl models that came up here I had looked at reviews , only lookin at this stage wife says our 48'' is plenty lol ,im in nelson currently have Samsung series 6 lcd great pic but like the bigger tvs now

Im also going to have to consider this soon, as I will have the lounge ready for a TV soon. The last panny plasma I saw in store looked pretty aweful and flickery with shifts in colour like a crap colourwheel DLP projector had, salesman was reluctant to adjust the settings and I could see no evidance of it processing to have more than an aweful 24FPS so it was clearly set up wrong.

Actually, I AM correct.
JB's stopped selling Sharp a while ago, and that, would be why you can no longer search their products on their website / PriceMe.

Remember, under Geekzone's rules you need to list your affiliations. Otherwise things that you say from here on, will be all taken with a great deal of suspicion.

Turns out JB did stop selling them. Just after I left the retail floor and moved into a non sales role. So I was still under the impression that we did.

But what you were incorrect about what how I formed my opinion of the brand.

And I wasn't aware I had to list my Affiliations. Is there a special place I need to do that?

Where did you see it? I know at JB that most of the TVs not on the "tech racks" are all hooked up using component and it gets worse with each TV they add. If there is ever a TV that your keen on any salesmen should be happy to hook up a BD player so you can get a better idea of the picture.

Just remember - when it comes to choosing a TV, it comes down to model vs model, not necessarily brand vs brand. So while an entry level Sony may be poor, but a top end Sharp may be superb... it doesn't mean the entry level Sharp is great too... let alone the top Sony being rubbish. It just doesn't work that way.
Personally, I don't like any 70" LED's I've sat in front of to date... with the exception of the top Ultra HD models, but the price is a little bit out of my range at the time of writing. Meaning a 65" plasma is my first choice.

As he's not offering support or help or pushing the company, I'd think that listing an affiliation is a bit of a stretch...
That would be like me saying I don't like Mack trucks based on the fact I'm a truck driver... And having to become a spokesperson for my company to do it.
Or don't use glasurit paint because I paint with PPG (which I don't).
Do I have have to list an affiliation to Google because I'm an Android fan and use a chromebook?

BTW, I really don't like Macks... especially the rebadged Renault ones they did in the 90's! ;-p

Was at harveys. HDMI was being fed from a bluray player on the stand infront of it. I suspect it was one of those rigged demo discs to make the most of of the image processing by having a low framerate and whackky motion blur, but they had forgotten to put the tv into demo mode to fix up half of the screen to make it look better and sharper.

Im going to have to get into av world at some time to see what they have on display, but to be honest I havent seen a plasma I could deal with watching long term yet, and the LEDs I have tried have all had that annoying dimming backlight crap going on even with dynamic contrast turned off so I am still kinda prefering the stable image of the older non LED backlit LCD's instead where I can turn the brightness down without them flickering. But those dont come in big screen sizes and have the known longevity issues.

But the company wasn't mentioned and he said in that same post

If I knew someone that was good at something, I'd recommend them too, even if they worked at the same company.

I could offer you an expert to talk to on semi-trailers... And after a PM I could tell you it certainly wouldn't be made by the company I work for at the moment.... As it was a PM, I couldn't see the big deal.

Each to their own. If everyone here had to do something like that, nobody would get any advice. Just my opinion.

If it would make you feel better i can put him in touch with friends that work at multiple different retailers.

However I get the feeling that nothing will make you happy as you are dragging out a point of zero help to the person who started this thread. So I would suggest that all further posts be relevant to the post creators questions and not your petty complaints about what does/does not constitute affiliation.

Foxy38 choose the retailer whom you are most comfortable for whilst I like the retailer I work for I also shop elsewhere as the need arises.

As I said I know some good people at a couple of different retailers so you are welcome to pm me for their details or find your own way.

I have a 65" ST50. Brilliant TV but thinking of selling as it's too small for me.

Will look at the Sony 70" or possibly going to a projector.

Dunnersfella although you are correct in saying people are supposed to list affiliations that's would be something I think you'd be pushing him to do if he had said look at the range from X store.

The OP asked for an opinion and he's given one on 4 different brands so stating that he's been a little one sided in his view insn't really how I perceive his comments other than to say that people are saying the Sharps are a bit off.

I am quite sure that they sell more than just brand of tv at any store although a particular type and size is more likely (especially when dealing with the very large sizes) are likely to be limited to high end stores since the tv's on the store floor are not free they're still tv's the company are paying to have so having 10 large tv's from 10 different suppliers isn't really that viable.

So I had a related question. What features should I be looking for in a modern TV to make it worth doing double duty as a computer monitor/gaming screen? I guess response latency, but they don't usually advertise that.

And what's the biggest size screen comfortably useable at a desk? I figure if you can do triple 24" monitors in an array fairly comfortably, then a single 40" TV screen shouldn't be too large. I guess the only potential issue is that you'd be working with 1/3 the pixels.

Still, with windows 8.1's improved metro snap feature combined with aero snap, you have a fair amount of customizability in terms of making the most of your horizontal screen estate. 1920 pixels could comfortably fit a few applications depending on your needs (e.g. mail 25%, the rest split between 2 browser windows or whatever).

Edit: hmm, looks like mail requires a third, but notes in 1/4 and then 2 browser windows in the desktop in the remaining 75% actually looks very cramped on my surface pro. But then, I think I have text size etc set to 150& probably. Might look ok at 100.

Also bear in mind that a trio of 24" monitors doesn't have close to the height of a 40" its very hard to work with a 40" at a desk unless its 1.5m+ away from where you are sitting.

I have used 32" TVs not all that different from a 30" Monitor.

Differences are:

1. Resolution
2. Refresh rate
3. Connectivity

You will get a significantly better image from a 24"/30" Monitor than a 24"/32" TV as a general rule.

I use the Dell 24" Ultra Sharp Monitors and they are amazing

I can game on them (not the best in the world for this) but where they really shine is long periods of use.
I suffer from eye fatigue when using computers but when I'm using the Ultra sharp monitors I can use them all day without issue.

If you are wanting the dual functionality of Monitor/TV then I would recommend looking at getting a TV tuner card for your PC and using a monitor.

If you are wanting to have a TV in the lounge and also connect your PC to it. I would look at something with a good refresh rate (i.e. 200Hz/240Hz)

The 240Hz TVs are good for PC gaming as they will give 120HZ per eye on 3D which is the refresh rate that a lot of the 3D gaming monitors use.

I quite like the 7400/8600 series of TVs from LG. Well spec'd image quality wise and are good for gaming both PC and console. Dual Play is also a nice touch if you enjoy console gaming.
