If you really want to go UHD, go down the projector route. Better upscalers and a massive picture.

Campbell Live ran a damning story on the 5th about the price of the Samsung HU9000 being excessive in New Zealand. The story has been pulled from their website and Facebook page.

You still have the same issues of standards not yet being in place.

Yep, but at least you get a picture 4x the size and the upscale on some of those Sony projectors are down right amazing.

sony vpl-vw600es - only US$ 11,000 standards be damned lol. That's pretty expensive for a scaler if it ends up not supporting the standards when they are decided.

I'm pretty happy with 1080p at 100" myself.

Maybe when our older, HD (720p) plasma goes bang it will get replaced by a 4K set. But it's not showing any signs of that at the moment. Everything else in the house is already FHD so almost all of what we watch is 720p or 1080p or upscaled to that. I have my doubts that the upscaling capabilities of the AV Receiver would be impressive enough to take an SD Sky channel and make it watchable on a 4K TV. So will need to wait for what ever 4K delivery system we end up with.

Mind you that 42" HD analogue tuner plasma with only 2 HDMI sockets cost well north of the OP's $3000 and that was on special! Such is the world of consumer tech.

You and me both. I have no intentions of going 4K anything within the next 5 years. Why? Because even at 120" people struggle to see the difference.

Dolby Atmos, now THERE is a difference worth putting money in to. Especially now it's coming to Home Cinema formats.

Wonder why it was pulled?. Would be interested to watch that, can't recall if it did see it, is it available for watching anywhere?
