Just be sure to photocopy the reciept. Warehouse use some really bad thermal paper that bleaches out even when in the dark.

Wow - a couple of recommendations and we're condemning a poster to buying a Konka or Veon?
Harsh guys... harsh.

Seriously, take a look at a Samsung, a Panasonic, an LG or maybe a Sony.
From crappy pedestals, to poor off-axis viewing to lag issues, to poor contrast to slow changing of inputs, crappy motion - there's a reason why some off-brands are cheap!
HDMI handshake issues will come up if you're unlucky (especially if you combine the TV with a home theatre receiver), annoying lack of an optical port (for some reason)...

Walk away from the crap... walk away...

For full HD, bigger is better even at 2-3m viewing distance. We have a 42" for gaming at the same distance and we wish we'd bought bigger, at least 50 inches.

I'd recommend display quality first and only because it is the only thing you can't fix if you've made a mistake. As richms said, check out the quality of the gaming mode. As Dunnersfella says, I'd tend to keep away from Konka and Veon but if the price and quality is right then why not. I've seen an amazing picture on a large Veon for much less than $1,000.

Personally, I'd also add 3d mode as a second must have. We bought a low-end 42" Samsung with minimum features for $550 a couple of years ago. It's been great but I should have spent another $100 to get 3D and a headphone socket.

Almost any other issue can be fixed: Audio quality can be fixed with headsets (particularly for gaming) or good audio equipment; Additional HDMI connections through a switch; media center for streaming, web browsing; etc.

A friend of mine has this model and she loves it. It is quite a nice tv I should say. I have got the older model of this and I really like it, it has pretty good picture quality. I like the software better than LG or Samsung ones.

Good set of features as well. Built in Wifi. And currently at one of the cheapest I have seen it for at the Warehouse (649!!).

it does seem to get astoundingly good reviews. someone mentioned its between this model and the equivalent samsung in this price point for 40", but at the moment being $250 cheaper, its damned tempting, even the cheap warehouse models sometimes being sub $400

Check the wall bracket mounting option on that TV. It may be one of the ones that uses the TV's base as part of the mount.
This can be a good, and a bad thing.
One, it can't fit onto an existing bracket.
Two, the design may lead to you requiring a stud and a joist to line up 'just right', or, mean you have to attach a piece of wood on the wall prior to mounting.
Three, if you want an articulating bracket, you're outta luck.
OR.
You could find it perfect and save $'s because you don't have to buy a wall bracket.

Also, the big power bricks on these is annoying, but if the TV Gods are in your favour, it may be okay for you.

The other thing I was thinking is the smart TVs are slow as for using the apps, whilst the sony is cheap, i dont think generally smart tvs are worth the extra coin vs leaving an old unused lappy plugged in as a browser/htpc?

shame you didn't look at the noel leeming sale the other week - some smart TV's for under $1000 there.

If you're in Auckland, try Appliance Shed for some cheaper models of quality brands.

whatever the case, i'd suggest hanging out till Labour Weekend when you're sure to see a bunch more TV deals from all the main retailers!

in know rush so can wait if there are likely to be sales on. the sony at the warehouse does seem cheap, but if i could get an equally good panel without the "smart" software for less money id be happy

If you want to play console games and enjoy them you need a good sized TV with a quality picture and a quality audio system. I wouldn't consider buying a TV and sound system for less than $100 quality, a lot of games have really good visual and audio effects and having as best quality as you can afford will make your gaming experience more pleasurable.

In saying that if your upgrading from a mono audio CRT TV then a $500 setup will be a massive improvement.....

Just wanted to feedback a little on this quickly.

Recently we purchased a 42" Veon from the Warehouse for my parents, at $399.
It appears doing some reading that the Warehouse have dropped Transonic over quality issues.

The picture is ok, and the menus are much nicer than I was expecting for a cheap TV.
The stand was even clear glass!
The remote worked very well and it has a receiver lump under the TV with an LED on it that seems to work exceptionally well from all angles.
No smarts (no internet connection/youtube etc) built in, but we were connecting to a Sony bluray player with that already included.
These come with a 3 year warranty also.

The bad though, and this is common to many new TV's I suspect, is that the design of a thin edge surround has meant there are no longer decent speakers built into the frame.
The sound on this thing is appalling, like seriously bad regardless of what EQ mode you are in.
I think it's common place though, given the add on up sell of the 'sound bar' device, which basically sees you paying for the speakers you used to get as standard.
That said, with surround sound systems and the like, often these days the TV is essentially a display monitor only anyway.

Anyhow, just wanted to pass on my experience there. No idea of black levels etc, all that picture quality stuff, just that the parents are happy and it looks better than I thought it would for at least $200 less than anywhere else.

I got a 32" Veon for my spare/games room TV. Didn't want to spend more than that as it's only for occasional use, but I wanted consoles etc out of the living room. It's actually fine for that use. The sound is a little tinny, but I had a 20 year old Midi stereo in the stashed garage from my younger days, which had audio line-in connectors, and that solved the problem nicely. Yes, a good brand name set will probably be better, but I'm happy with what I went with. It really depends on what you want to do, how much use you will make of it, and how much you are prepared to spend.

I have both, a VEON (The Warehouse) and a KONKA (Harvey Norman) in our lounge.

Both pretty good value for money. The Veon is a 32" model and the Konka is a 49". Both really good value for money.
I slightly prefer the Konka as I think it is more aesthetically designed and the Google Chromecast worked with that no problems, where as is sometimes turned off and on. (Connected via HDMI port and USB powered). Konka is also a huge brand in China and India and I think Veon is made for the warehouse in NZ but I don't know by whom. But both good brands.

My brother does have a more expensive LG model that has a nice magic mouse, but I got two TV's for less than the price of the LG and still had $$ left over so couldn't justify the extra spend.
