I thought MP had a Sky UK grabber as well then you could forget about EPGC.

Quick reply - I'll respond to detail in above posts later today.
Going back to basics on this problem. Just to let you know that I'm am only using Freesat (UK) channels and do not have a sky subscription. Begs the question as to whether I still need both Sky/FreeSat and OpenTV EPG searches unless I need them to get EPG data unique to each group.

SJB: I thought MP had a Sky UK grabber as well then you could forget about EPGC.

Not built in. There is a third party fork which supports it. However, people that choose to install non-standard versions of MP/TV Server have to rely on the providers of those versions for support. Also, there's often a significant delay between official releases and updates to non-standard versions. So, some people simply prefer to stick with official releases.

mm1352000: I wonder if you have the DVB EPG grabber enabled? It can grab Freesat EPG data...

Don't think I have. i.e. No channels ticked under DVB EPG/TV Epg grabber tab. ...but I do have a tick in the box for "Store data only for selected channels"

mm1352000: To try the list approach, configure the XMLTV plugin as follows:

 

  • untick import new tvguide.xml
  • tick import files in new tvguide.lst
  • make yourself a tvguide.lst file; it is just a text file with one line per file name
  • try to import and do the mapping as normal
Implemented the above suggestion an extract (below) from the MP TVService-Error.log (can't see option for uploading txt files). i.e. Removed the EPGC merging by creating 2 seperate EPG files called TVGuideOpenTV.xml and TVGuideFreesat.xml and added them both into my tvguide.lst file for the MP XMLTV plugin. Log file implies clashes of keys again but can't tell if made any real difference as the MP TV listings look pretty well the same.

Let me know if anything else to try out.

mm1352000: If the common channels are excluded from one of the grabs then the merged file will be valid and can be imported easily.


If i were to implement this solution, which of the EPGC collections ini files (for the Freesat and OpenTV grabs) would I need to modify to exclude duplicates? Does one of these grabs collect most EPG data? ...and should it therefor be treated as the master grabber?

I've decided to change v4.2 so that if you have an ini file with both OpenTV and FreeSat present the result is the same as in previous versions. This entails not using the area/region for the FreeSat data if the collection parameters include OpenTV.

My original suggestion of creating an xmltv file and merging it in a second collection won't work. This is because the file that is merged loses the service ID and each channel from the merged file is assigned a sequential number instead.

The change will take me a couple of days. I'll put out a fixpack over the weekend.

The things you've mentioned are essentially irrelevant to the question of whether the grabber is enabled or not.
The grabber has two "enabled" checkboxes in the main DVB EPG section to enable or disable it. Are either of those enabled?

I'm pretty sure that my Freesat grab doesn't "grab" all my freesat channels EPG. i.e. No EPG data available. ...but I'll confirm that!

mm1352000: The grabber has two "enabled" checkboxes in the main DVB EPG section to enable or disable it. Are either of those enabled?

Once again, don't think the relevant check boxes are checked, but please check the attached screen-shot to confirm.

I've attached the 2 EPG grab sessions for both Freesat and OpenTV. OpenTV appears to collect good data for nearly all my channels but Freesat seems to have a lot of "No EPG entries". The Freesat log hangs on the "Processing horror channel" for a few minutes and then finished within seconds. Looks like my OpenTV is the one that collects most good EPG data. ...but I'm no expert in EPGC.

My EPGC grab sessions are run as windows scheduled tasks and don't know if or where their respective logs (if they exist) are stored. I'll run an interactive EPGC session and then cutn-paste into this post. Best I can do with limited knowledeg of Windows 7 tasks.

I've just posted v4.2 fixpack 1 on Sourceforge.

This will process your combined Sky and FreeSat collection exactly the same as pre 4.2 versions so you can go back to having them in the same ini file.

Any idea why there are all the "*** no data received ***" messages in the Freesat grab for channels that I would have thought would have EPG data (eg. ITV, Channel 5...)?
