Ah yes! Good point. Our Panasonic is only a backup for our TiVo boxes so haven't had that problem.

BigHammer: You'll need DIGA Player from the Play store.


I had already tried that app.
Re-tried again tonight, but all it says is 'Searching...'.

I can see my DVD Recorder in Windows Explorer running Windows 8.1 and browse to the recorded files which play via Windows Media Player.

Not sure what the problem is. Works for me with multiple android devices. Remote recording is hit and miss but viewing over the network so far has worked okay (except for the odd app crash).

And what about live sports? (without mucking about with random streaming sites)
That's one thing I miss using the on demand apps - I can't watch the premier league live

(although I also have premier league pass also)


I'm lucky that a friend has Sky and doesn't use their SkyGo account so they lent it to me. Otherwise, I just go on one "streaming site" for sports and it works for everything. :)

Is the DMR-BWT835GZ's sharing capability fully DLNA compliant so that I could use other software to read from it? I regularly use VLC and don't like the idea of relying on Panasonic's own apps.

I have the BWT840GZ and can only access the Panasonic's HDD content on my network through my Windows 8.1 laptop.  For whatever reason my two Win 7 boxes as well as OSX 10.7 Lion box no joy at all.  The Win 8.1 machine plays the recorded content no problem using Windows Media Player but I've had no success as yet with VLC.  I must admit i have not persevered as yet to find a solution on either of these two issues. but will be interested if anyone can point me in the right direction.

There is this Tablo product, specifically designed to stream DVB-T to tablets, and PC's, etc
http://www.tablotv.com/meet-tablo

But delving further, there is a subscription service (4.99/mo, etc, )to allow for additional features. And it's USA / Canada only.

Stink idea - already paying for a box, and expected to pay more to unlock half decent usability features ? Sheesh !

But may give someone an idea on what alternative products to search the webs for, and pitfalls to watch for ...

One way I found is install a tv dongel to laptop and then use VLC to stream over lan or wifi
vlc supports a few dongels now.. common ones out there.

other methods connect a dongel to a media server and let its linux system stream it.

eg.
"C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" C:\Users\Public\Documents\DVB-T-Channels.xspf --sout="#transcode{vcodec=mpgv,acodec=mpga,vb=1000,ab=128,samplerate=48000,width=1280,height=720,deinterlace}:std{access=http,mux=ts,dst=192.168.1.6:8181/stream}"


where the txt file xml has this.. you select the channel via vlc and it changes on the dongel and sends the stream
to 192.blah..... port
also can select analogue channel where sky is muted and transmit it as well.. very neat
took me a while to work out the coding from googling.. so ssave you a bit of time here

Hmm wheres edit gone..

seems the form clipped the rest of the line for VLC

anyhow once its streaming you can just use BSplayer app and add the network stream 192.blah:8181 which
will be a open port on the laptop vlc opened which is transcoding and tranmitting

I now have a BWT835GZ and though I can't get anything more than the device name to appear in VLC on iOS I can at least watch recorded content via VLC 2.1.4 on OS X. However when I try to open a live TV channel (it lists them all and the current program name) it resets the VLC browser window as if the device had just disappeared from the network and then come back on. I can live with the DIGA app for now, but I hope VLC can find a way to tap into the live stream.
