DS9:
Hi, what I do not understand is that TVNZ 6+7 will be advert free and be the portal for Government specified content, yet TVNZ can stop 700,000 Sky customers from seeing that content, without buying another decoder. I would like to know the legality of this, as TVNZ is a state broadcaster as well as a profit driven company.
Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.
Ideally TVNZ would provide Sky with 6+7 and Sky should provide freeview with Prime. Then we would all be happy.
cyril7: Sky wont nessecarily rebroadcast them, just point the STB at the original FreeView streams, hopefully soon this is what will also happen with the TV1/2/3/4/MaoriTV channels that Sky currently does have agreements to place in the EPG for Sky subs to see.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD. https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.
cyril7: I think in general Tax payers would be pretty unimpressed with this if they realised TVNZ's stance.

littlehead: I thought one of the reasons prime wasn't on freeview satellite was due to an agreement not to broadcast unencrypted in aussie due to the sports they carry. You probably wont ever see prime on freeview satellite due to this, but could do on the dvb-t service when it goes live.

How would this be fair for TVNZ? What would the other Freeview broadcasters contribute to make this a reality?
There are some sizeable fees involved in broadcasting on Freeview...
