Why not? I can't understand why people are saying this is even a thing.
The Australian dollar has to have a certain level of value, the NZ dollar and the supplying country whatever as well. If there were a disparity that caused a $1000 difference, then you could play currency merry-go-round and buy one currency via one country and sell it back via another.

Currency trading you mean?

The largest market in the world by volume, you've never heard of it?

Prices are set by supply and demand at a basic level and companies try to maximize their profits, if they can get away with adding 20% to items in NZ compared to Australia then they will.
I notice nobody ever comes on to this forums and complains about how we pay only 20% the amount for car insurance that they do in the UK
Lets all demand that insurance companies raise their premiums to match other countries
Dunnersfella: NZ and Aussie are some of the cheapest places to buy TV's in the world, behind the States (and their frankly insane deals on the likes of Black Friday).
Take a trip through Japan some day, they pay A LOT more than us!
Basically TV's only roll around with around 20% margin from full price... everyone is stocking the same TV's (for the most part) so no one is exactly making a killing in the market place.
That's why the likes of Norman Ross / The Good Guys etc have gone under, and the likes of Powerstore have retracted significantly.
The other stores are trying to make profit out of other areas like furniture / appliances etc.
My suggestion, complain to the importers...
Let us know how that works out.

Take a trip to Japan any day and you'll pay a lot more than us for most things. They have a humongous tax system up there..
farcus:
edit: I've lived in Japan for most of the past ten years and came back to NZ a few months ago. I was absolutely astounded by the cost of living in NZ now compared with when I last lived here. Japan has traditionally been considered an expensive country to live - but it's got nothing on NZ. Having said that - the price of electronic items in NZ seems about right. Not a cheap bargain but not what I’d consider overpriced (in comparison) either.
