sonyxperiageek: If they play out sound then they aren't fake. :-)

But seriously, at that price point, you probably won't get decent headphones on eBay to be honest.. You might as well buy some $30 Sennheiser CX300-IIs on Amazon.com.

What evidence do you have that the ones on amazon are genuine?

Many people, myself included, have been shipped fakes from amazon marketplace vendors.

mishyman: mostly for music like around like $20-$30

I was looking earlier this month and I was surprised to see the Philips SHE3580/SHE3590 ($10 from amazon) being rated as best below $50. One reviewer on head-fi rated them as comparable to his $300 Etymotics.

And you can but them in Noel Leeming for $20.

The 3580 and 3590 differ only in the range of colours. I got the '90s from Noel Leeming and I am happy.

Best of all is that at that price for the original, you are unlikely to be sold fakes.

Maybe I'll pick up a pair. They're on special for $12 from NL at the moment!

Any opinions on best gym in-ear phones? I know what I've used and what my website says, just looking at options. Main thing for gym for me in unequal cord lengths and ideally some protection against microphonics (the noise of the cord banging around).

Up to $50 I guess, they tend to break so I chuck 'em.

Firstly, because the reviews are pretty good. Reviews on Amazon can usually be trusted because it is more trust-able than say eBay.

And because Amazon have said that it is "shipped and sold by Amazon.com", which means I have full guarantee if something goes wrong.

And if you have been shipped fake ones, but nothing on the product page led you to believe they were not genuine, you can usually complain to Amazon and they would give you a full refund.

The ones I use for running and the gym are the Sennheiser PMX 685i, as in http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0094R4Q6Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

Had them for 15 months and still going fine. On special on Amazon for $31 US at the moment.

They may be more than what you're wanting to spend, but I believe they're totally worth it; I paid $70 NZ incl shipping, and would happily pay that or more for them again. Also $130 from the NZ Apple Store, so the current Amazon price is good!

Cord is only from one side, and there is very little cable noise. The are very light and comfortable, never fall out, and the sound is fine for this purpose. I've tried the in-the-canal type phones and will never use them for exercising again, as I believe their very design of sitting in the ear canal will lead to a high transmission of sound from the cable. Also the propensity to fall out all the time while exercising!
