I have a few other priorities for a while, but a 4k TV is definitely where I'll go next. Last I looked the newer LG models had the connectivity I needed. I'll be emulator gaming on it at 4K (and a little later into the year PC gaming at 4K once I get a second 980 in SLI), broadband is fast enough here for 4K streaming too - no shortage of uses for the extra resolution for me.

But delay 4K purchase if you can.

I dont understand these comments about 4k content. Almost every modern video recording device that comes out now supports creating 4k content. It doesnt matter if it is the latest smart phones (LG G3, Samsung Galaxy line, Sony Z2&3, Nexus 6) or cameras (Pana GH4, Olympus OMD M5, Sony A7, GoPro) . There a lot of affordable options for enthusiast content creators, there will be a lot of content soon.

Plus we now have Netflix with 4k streaming and Youtube with an option to enable 4k content. With Sony and Netflix you have 2 major players creating and pushing 4k.

My biggest issue with 4k right now is my internet speed at home isnt good enough for downloading 4k content yet. But UFB may help soon ;p

You're right there are multiple ways to get 4k content, but I stand by my assertion that there's essentially no 4K content available. I personally have 3 devices capable of recording 4k content and I have never bothered. Not for lack of a display device either!

Netflix will have a very limited number of shows in 4K, and charge more to view the 4K streams.

As far as user generated content goes, (Youtube etc) most user generated content is rubbish from a production values, lighting etc point of view. In most cases a 1080P camera will produce indistinguishable results.

When 50% of all new TV and movies are produced (and distributed!) at 4K - that's when I'll jump to 4K.

Internet speeds to support 4K aren't a huge deal for most BB users. There are DEFINITELY a lot of people that won't be able to stream 4K today, or in the near future - but even though there will be tens of thousands (maybe a couple hundred K) users in that category, many more have the access technology required in place TODAY. If they choose an ISP with a good level of CDN investment then it'll be fine for hundreds of thousands of users today.

If you are wanting smart tv apps, then go with samsung.

I'd recommend go with a set top box over a smart tv.

Use pricespy history chart to see if you are getting a good deal because:
1. Most of the sale prices lately haven't been as good as boxing day
2. The TVs are due to be replaced by newer models for 2015, but this hasn't happened so I would only accept something that is the same price or cheaper than boxing day sales.

I think you should possibly wait till easter sales.

Don't rule out a 1080P TV because
1. There is little / no 4k content available
2. With a 65" set, if you are more than or equal to 3m away you wont appreciate the difference between 1080P vs 2160P.

However even if you want to go with 1080P you might find that you end up getting a 4k tv anyways, because there wont be many 1080P sets >60" in size. You could look at UA60H6400 UA70H6400 etc. I paid $1999 for ua60h6400.

There's a 60" LG UHD for around 2k if you look around the traps.

Yep, good call, I've noticed the TV models are still the same as when I was looking a while back, and suspect the pricing is not as good as around Christmas time, Easter might deal to the prices, not sure when to expect new models though.

Feeling pretty comfortable with getting 4k TV now, seems HDMI2.0 is on most as well as HDCP2.2 and HEVC. I don't really have an issue with the availability of 4k content, I'm happy having the better image quality from upscaling of blurays.

Didn't realise there were 60" 4k screens around, but found one online at Noel Lemming for around $2k, will have to check it out, thanks for the tip!

Yeah, they are pretty good prices too on the smaller sizes, when I was looking a few months ago the options were 55", 65" and bigger

Good price ay!

My question would be
Does it have
HDMI2.0 (for connecting other devices at 50 frames per second)
HEVC (if you want stream netflix at 4k resolution)
HDCP 2.2 (copy protection standard, might prevent you playing some content it the future)

It might be you don't care about those features, I had a quick google but Samsung seem to keep the details to themselves, which might suggest it doesn't have those features!

Any particular reason, it's $2100 at Noel Leeming and doing a price history check this is the lowest price it's been?
