how good does the reception need to be? I take it that it's only coming from Kaukau at this stage?

itey: what tuner were you using? + what frontend?

Hauppauge hvr-900, its and external USB device, i was using the gbpvr for those screenshots, but after the exams im going to finish setting up my mythtv laptop and use that.

The three Wgtn TX's are now live for testing on CH48,50 and 59,

Which transmitter station are they transmitting from???

It's from Kaukau. There are infill sites planned but these are not operational yet.

Is there an estimate of when these trials will begin in Auckland?

then they replied on 1st of November "We are hoping to have the test channels running over the next three to four weeks in the Auckland area."

The problem is that unless you pay $200~300 for a PC tuner card you can't watch any of it. Can't see anypoint of watching HD on a PC..

hardly $200-300,

there are heaps of dvb-t tv cards for ~$100, heck, you can even get the cheap, crap brands for ~$50

I was lucky enough to be given a DViCO FusionHDTV card by my bro inlaw from Aus. Now in mediaprotal I have configure the following frequencies can anyone confirm that this is correct?

I paid $150 for my usb hybrid tuner... how can you not see a point in watching HD on your computer? Awesome picture quality, awesome sound.

In my case I watch virtually everything through my PVR since it's hooked up to my Plasma in the lounge.

There are heaps of USB tuners on dealextreme for about $25 US - so at the rate things are going, that will be about $20NZ when freeview launch ;) hardly something to even worry about the cost of.

Looks ok to me.

Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.

Could you guys point us to where we could buy these usb peripherals in NZ?
My laptop is not a top performer but it can decode some HD files I've downloaded with Miro.
So I guess, all these cards do is demodulation and channel decoding, and then they provide the raw MP4 stream for the PC to decode, is that right?
