We got a Zotac CI320 off Amazon for a similar price not long ago.  Has a similar processor (though quad core, not dual core) and came with Windows 8.1, but a small SSD and only 2GB ram.  It has an IR receiver, though I haven't used it as we use a wireless keyboard/trackpad to control.

It works perfectly as an HTPC connected to a 1080p TV.  Mainly running Plex (HT and Win8 app), but also various streaming video.  From memory the built in wireless spec is OK, but have not tried it as we are powerline networked.

Thanks - this is good to know! I did look at the Zotac range but went with the Minix because I could buy it from an NZ site. Looking forward to having a play with it when it arrives later this week!

Ooh, please report back if you do. From memory I was put off of it as a home solution by the lack of Ethernet port, but it would be awesome for traveling. Was going to take my Apple TV to Aussie later this year, but a stick would be much easier.
