RustyGonad:Speed = Heat

Heat = Noise

The quad core CPU's consume roughly twice the power of Dual Core circa 100W or so, compared to 60W for the dual core. Thats why you end up needing a 500W+ power supply.

I have used and compared the results from several PSU calculators, and it seems I am only needing 280w  (on average)

Thats including:

-Quad core 6600

-4GB ram

-Motherboard

-Blu-Ray drive

-2 hard drives

-Video card

-Tv tuner card

So I will look for a PSU around 400w to be on the safe side, and allow for possible upgrades etc

I've been looking around for a motherboard aswell and have settled, for the moment anyway, on Gigabytes GA-P35C-DS3R. It supports Core 2 Duo/Quad 65/45nm CPU's, 1600FSB(O.C) and supports both DDR2 and DDR3 RAM so it offers great future proofing.
It has 1 PCI-e x16, 3 PCI-e x1 and 3 PCI slots.
I had been thinking about the Asus P5E-V before this, but settled on the GA-P35C-DS3R because the case i chose supports ATX,it is cheaper, and has support for both DDR2 and DDR3. Theres still a couple of weeks left before i have saved enough to start the full build, so when the time comes to hand over the money, i may have changed my mind again lol. God knows i have changed it enough times already.
