OLED really is the only replacement for Plasma. Most current TV's pale in comparison to an old VT Panasonic.

I am intrigued as to why other vendors would call Samsungs HDR a scam in all the known HDR formats the baseline is HDR 10 ,Dolby have as the other dominant player put their own version forward in the form of Dolby Vision ( in my opinion the last thing we need is another format war ) Samsungs 8000 series SUHD which I own is fully compliant with HDR 10. I purposely stayed away from OLED and LG after some bad experience with customer service and far more expensive than I feel they need to be.

Looks like I can probably just buy a Veon and keep it in returnable condition and test its functionality and then return it if need be

I think you're a little confused by what I'm saying.

An OLED TV has far superior blacks than a LED. Regardless of who makes the LED you simply can't have a LED that can deliver black levels that are as dark as an OLED and an OLED has a far superior contrast ratio than any LED. Because of this manufacturers like Samsung can't get their blacks as good they make their screen brighter to give a dynamic range that meets the HDR requirements.

At the end of the day TV vendors use every trick in the book at CES to make their products look better than the competitors, but the simply reality was no Sony or Samsung TV at CES came close to delivering the wow factor as the new LG OLED's. yes the price is a slight issue, but if price isn't an issue then they simply are the best technology you can get.

I've bought a FHD 55" Veon a few months ago for our spare room. Recently I've discovered a stuck pixel: it's about 5cm from the right side, 20cm from the bottom. It's only visible on dark scenes, so I noticed it while watching Daredevil. Not sure if it warrants return, I haven't looked at the fine prints or talked to their customer service yet. Anyway, it's easy to forget about it.

My main complaint with this TV (other than not being UHD :-) is that it doesn't have a light sensor, so I have to keep manually cycling through the brightness settings. Easy enough to do (there's a "Picture Mode" button) on the remote, still it's quite annoying in 2016 (same complaint I have with modern laptops).

Other than that, it does have an optical output so it supports surround sound though our old receiver that doesn't have HDMI input.

Finally, it doesn't give you an option (or I haven't been able to find it) to disable motion prediction and compensation so it can be a bit annoying if you're used to the 24fps look of movies, especially on Netflix.

As I said, it's for I our spare room so I'm happy with it, I couldn't find much else for around the $700 price point at the time. Perhaps a Dick Smith JVC TV.

I still notice a difference when I switch back to our high end LG TV from 2012, our main TV. The image is brighter and warmer, total control on frame rate, light sensor, better upscaling from SD.

Curious to see the UHD model, I was surprised they would appear so soon in the budget range.

IMHO 4K Bluray will probably never really take off as streaming will grow. There will be a market, but that is never going to be as big as DVD and even 1080 bluray. It is 5 years away as well. They need cheap players and titles

Hi :) I was aware of the superior blacks that OLED produce and I am also aware of the brightness trickery :). Yes price is also a factor for a lot of people.

Samsung are doing some pretty awesome stuff with their Nano Crystall displays like mine. As before I have had some issues with LG so Samsung was a perfect fit for me.

Hmmm I wonder who actually manufactures those Veon TV's as some look alot like my 2014 Sony with very similar specs to boot even the stand looks familiar although it's a little hard to tell from a small picture on a website

Anyone own a Veon in the 50,55,65 range? Care to share its usability and image quality? They're very hard to find actual information on, and its hard to tell whether the contrast ratio the Warehouse states in spec lists is native or dynamic (3000:1 native is fine, but 3000:1 dynamic would be truely aweful).

Everyone has stated the sound is aweful on Veon's - how aweful? Can't watch the news or sports? Or just not cinematic when watching a movie?

I suppose my question comes down to are they are good deal when they're on special (does the picture quality exceed expectations for the discounted price point eg $600- $700 for a 55" Veon) , or is the quality so bad that they're really a waste of money at any price.

I just bought a projector for movies, so my use will be television and gaming in lounge.

I have a 65" Veon and both the picture and sound quality are great. Sound is much better than my previous 50" LG.

If you go for a larger Veon, avoid anything with UHD resolution, the up-scalers aren't up to the quality of the higher end TV's, meaning regular Freeview viewing will be poor.

Sound quality doesn't sell TV's, so they've certainly skimped. To make matters worse, I've never seen a Veon TV with an optical port, only a coax, so finding a soundbar that's compatible out of the box is a bit of a pain.

Veons use ARC audio out of HDMI port 2
