Received my Yamaha AV receiver yesterday, and it's absolutely magnificent!
I don't know if it was poor setup, poor receiver, or advances in technology, but my rear surround speakers (Wharfedale Crystals) sound like completely different beasts! They were being woefully under-utilised with my old receiver, apparently. They sound much louder, clear, and crisp, and I actually now prefer using a 5.1 setup when listening to my vinyl. Previously I used 2.1, as that sounded the best. In fact, I have some absolutely wicked prog metal drumming tickling my ears as I type this.
I initially thought I had a DOA unit, as I couldn't get sound to work with HDMI ARC enabled, but I suspect that may be a dodgy cable. I needed a pretty long one to reach from the TV inputs to the receiver, and only had one long enough. It's a really cheap one, and not all cables support ARC apparently. More discovery to be done there.
If this is an entry level receiver, I can't wait until I can afford the next level up. :-D
