Yes but I do still have to get it past the Minister of Finance and it costs about $650!

The man in NL was a bit surprised that it did not have a 4k capable DVD player unlike the X Box equivalent.

Yeah, that's a pain in the proverbial I agree. I'd still take a PS4 every day of the week and twice on Sundays! YMMV however.

Agreed - I wouldn't really be getting it for the DVD aspect in any case.

Maybe if I sell that Metrum stuff I will get the pro...!

also looking at a new TV. currently have a Phillips TV is 10 years plus (1080i lol) and its time to get an upgrade. either 60 or 65 inch. budget of up to $4000, what are the best options to go at the moment?

Same problem here, need small ones in the kitchen and similar places and they are all low res crud now. Once I have the other NVR setup and am no longer reliant on a tuner from a modulator to get the driveway camera on the TV then I will be swapping it for a HDMI monitor instead. 768 panels look crap off a 1080 source unless it is just blurry video content.

No need for this - I can just cast the screen direct to the TV by selecting it under the cast menu!

Res and scrolling not quite as good as the phone screen but it works well enough and it's much easier to see what's going on!!

Watched some streamed 4k content tonight on YT. OMG. Just amazing. Some movie trailers and things - the detail was phenomenal and it was just like being in the cinema but without the annoying kids!

Also watched a recorded HD Sky broadcast: miles ahead of the predecessor Samsung which up to that point had seemed quite reasonable.

I had a play with the various apps and functions: there is a lot there I shall probably never use. Wife is constitutionally opposed to paying for Netflix etc in addition to Sky so not sure if those will ever get used and unless Netflix has improved since I last looked it was not improvement in NZ over iTunes, neither of which have even half the content of their US counterparts, in any case.

One curious thing is the quaintly Japanese idea of being able to dictate things like search commands into the TV remote and have them appear on screen as text!

They are a pain in the butt in a wheelchair, we watch movies at home these days it's just easier.

At the 22/24" end it's only lower-res tv's (1366x768) and not 1920x1090... and then there's nothing until the 32". What's happened to the bottom end of the market?

I've also noticed the same few models at every channel... really just price and nothing else

We have a mint Samsung LA22C450E which is 22 and HD now not really required if you want to make me an offer. Box and everything I think.

How are you finding the TV after a couple of days? I'm looking at the same TV to replace my earthquake-dead 65" Panasonic plasma. Ultimately I want a 65-75" OLED, but LG's current offerings are too expensive and have dodgy motion control - so the Sony looks like a good stop-gap for a couple of years.

It's very good.

I probably do not use even half of the gizmos etc on it but the ones I have tried (You Tube mainly) are all good and set up was a breeze using the 5Ghz wifi in our house. I was even able to use my phone and my Google account to set it up which was cool.

Picture is excellent with good content - broadcast HD is much improved over our Samsung and 4k vids and trailers on YT are spectacularly impressive. It gives off almost no heat compared to a plasma either which is a bonus in the summer and uses far less power too I suspect.

I've also found that the tiny bezels make the image 'float' in a room with only basic lighting on - the plasma had 2" bezels and it was like watching a TV in a picture frame. This one is nothing like that at all.
