With the way modern vinyl is packaged these days, a dual sided album could be considered an EP. It's very common now for an album to span four discs (or quad sided, if you like). If it wasn't for the fact that TimA said it was a few years ago, I would've posited that by using that phrase he was indicating the collection was primarily EPs or shorter albums. :-)

Im currently re-ripping all my CDs, CD Singles that I have collected over the years. A slow manual process.

Currently I'm at 199GB of files (8232 songs). Still a fair way to go. (A project to improve sound quality further on my LPFM station The Cheese, plus have a good backup of all my CD library).

These days I get .WAV files (watermarked) from the record labels and NZ On Air.

Just started this process myself over the Xmas break... quite a daunting task whenever I remember I've got over 800 CD's to do. Actually, that's probably more like, 1100 when I include my wife's discs too!

Oh well... slow and steady wins the race!

Yep, its all worth it in the end. They sound great. I'm also having to enter record label details and set intro/outro times.. So that makes the task just a bit more tedious :)

Last time I tried to order an album from 7digital in flac, the order couldn't be completed because flac was only available to UK customers. Quite sad, but I wonder if things have changed.

Google MP3Tag - a very useful utility for filling in metadata and cover art, and works on formats other than MP3.

Annoyingly it is specific to label/album/artist/license.

Some stuff is available on FLAC but not the same range that is available in the UK. Really don't get the logic behind that if the lossy rip is legitimately available for NZ...

It is an interesting issue. Most of the music I own was sourced from CD's (which have been lost years ago) or mp3 download. The legal options to move to FLAC are really hamstrung. I either need to pay again for a FLAC download, buy the CD again, or plainly can't get it.

The only reasonable options have been Bandcamp and pay what you like models used by NIN and Radiohead.

I've been using Filebot for all media (movies, tv, audio). Outstanding tool for quick bulk tagging and moving. It can also be scripted and works on a Synology NAS. I then use MP3tag for any of the missed files.

Some albums are 16-bit or 24-bit 44.1kHz, but others are available as FLAC 24-bit with 96kHz or 192kHz sample rate.

Technics Tracks

Technics also have a range of 16/24-bit and different sample rates.

How do these compare to HDTracks?
Do you need a VPN so that you're seen as coming from a US/UK ip address range?

What about credit card and address, or don’t they care?
Bandcamp never seems to care about my ip or credit card/address, but I’m not sure about the others.

How do they track the correct country for sales charts, or do the sales not get counted when sold through Bandcamp? Most albums on Bandcamp are from indie artists, so maybe they don’t care.
