Is it possible to get component out of either of the analog video outputs, I know the older ati cards would need to see a dongle to enable it, but even if I have to that would still be ok.
richms:Only downside I can see is the hdmi audio only being 2 channel or bitstream, but that wont matter for now for me and I am sure the next generation will solve it before I am in a position to use hdmi audio.
Our reciever isnt HDMI so its perfect, will just use optical instead. Even when we get a HDMI receiver we could set the hdmi input to use optical for audio im sure. (our current one lets you swap around digital audio inputs)
The 2 channel hdmi audio will pass bitstream, so you have the same functionality as a spdif connection, what it cant do is pass the uncompressed 7.1 audio out to the reciever. Dolby digital is more then enough for my liking and music is 2 channel anyway so no loss IMO, only gaming needs more channels of uncompressed to avoid having to do dolby encoding to get it over the single spdif connection, and you have analog outs to use anyway, which I have found a 5.1 or 7.1 analog in has the same limitations that hdmi audio has on receivers with respect to no bass adjustment.
