If you are looking at budget amp options, you might consider a SMSL or similar 'Class T' Chinese amp.
I have a Topping 30w driving 2 Jensen bookshelf speakers on my TV setup. Plenty of grunt for our medium sized lounge. The amp is tiny and sits behind my TV (high WAF).
Thanks for your helpful advice everyone. I thought with getting an older amp I'd give it a bit of a clean. It seems though, with the advances in technology and more energy efficient modern class D amps that I may just get more bang for my buck in the long term (lower electricity cost) by buying a newer class D amp, as long as they sound decent.
I remember the Pioneer A400 when it first came out, it had rave reviews and performed beyond its price point. Thanks for mentioning it.
