Dafman,

Sounds like you are happy with your new EZ950, which is great!

Assuming you also watch the TV in a bright room with sunlight, how does it perform in a bright room in relation to reflections and brightness (this is certainly an issue with my old Panasonic Plasma)?

Do you experience the magenta/purple screen tint when watching in a bright room and if so, is it a problem for you?

As I watch a lot of programs on the Sky TV, Jones channel, which is in SD, perhaps OLED is not for me.

Hi Pui - I can't really comment on bright room watching, I've only had the set for a couple of weeks and all our watching has been late in the day.

My thoughts are that reflections would be on a par with plasma.

What size are you looking at? The SD issue is exaggerated with a bigger screen, on a 55" it would be less of an issue.

We watched a current model Sony Android TV LCD for eight months before pulling the pin on the OLED - moving to the OLED is definitely much more plasma-like and a much more cinematic experience than LCD. HD on the LCD is no match for the OLED.

Something to consider - will you be watching Sky SD for the majority of the life you will own the TV for, or will your viewing habits shift to more HD as streaming options continue to grow?

If you are someone who was indifferent between LCD and plasma, the a modern LCD would be fine. If you noticed a real difference between plasma and LCD, then OLED would be a better choice.

I have seen the 65” EZ950 side by side with the 65” Sony X9000E (LCD) in Harvey Norman Invercargill, showing Sky Sport 1 (HD). The EZ950 definitely looked to have more natural colours with better blacks and seemed more “plasma like.” In saying that, I didn’t have the chance to make any changes to the colour settings of the Sony. I didn’t watch any SD channels on either TV, but will go back for another look.

I guess my SD content will reduce over time, so that is another consideration as you suggest.

I have had such a great run with my old Panasonic plasma, to a large degree, I am keen to stay with the Panasonic brand.

I know its only a TV, but it’s important to me that I get it right, given that I’m a bit of a TV addict.

Our Sony is the X8500D - the light bleed from the edge lighting was very noticeable, but the 9000 has better backlighting, so may not be as much of an issue. Apart from the lack of blacks and lighting bleed, I was impressed with the Sony picture quality.

I did find the Sony Android TV to be quite buggy - I would have to quite regularly re-boot it by pulling the plug out to sort out issues. The Android interface was also a little slower to navigate than the Panasonic. I'm sold on Android for phones, but not so much for TV.

One idea is to take a SD DVD into the store for comparison.

Like you, I went for a Panasonic given my great run with two of their plasmas. Side by side with the Sony A1 and LG OLED, I felt the Panasonic produced the most natural colouring.

Will be happy or sad by weekend. They had Plex setup to the A1 and it was fine to watch as well as media via usb. Panasonic found the media better and playback felt similar but the lack of the apps I wanted pushed me back at the Sony whose picture I really do like as much. As an owner of 4 Panny VTs it was a hard call but as they say... done now :D

Went for a 65 of course :D (Bye Bye is the oldest a 50VT20, Keeping the 42inch VT40 in the dining room, 65VT50 in Bedroom on the wall and 65VT60 in Lounge/Media room as that has the home theatre). Why new tv needed built in great sound as going on the wall of 2nd lounge which opens to covered deck for summer viewing.

Really was a super hard choice and if ONLY picture would have probably stayed Panny or waited another year or two. They did say that the Firefox OS has now been opened up and they expect the apps etc to improve over the next year (hopefully if the Android is buggy the fixes I have found are all thats needed). Also HN said dont hold breath on the sub woofer for the 1000 as they had been putting pressure on the reps with no luck while the built in woofer on the A1 can be changed to anything want already (not my main home theatre setup for loud movies so no biggie for me). Right now the only thing that annoys me about the current VT is lack of apps and size.

Interesting was that the big seller for them has been the 950 (he thinks probably price). Few are pushing on to the 1000 or the A1 or higher priced LG. To me if spending that much get exactly what you want with as little compromise as have to make.

Can't wait for tomorrow as just booked the time off work....

I went for the 950 as have independent speakers, so soundbar not needed. Taking the soundbar out the equation, the 1000 was $1,000+ more expensive and only offered a screen filter as point of difference. As I watch mainly in evenings, I went for the 950.

As you are still running late model plasma's, I will be interested to hear your comparison thoughts once up and running.

Very early thoughts will do a mini review this week. Apps is the killer for me and very very happy over the Pannys watched Twitch stream from Germany and the quality was amazing over a PS3/Panny setup for same feed. Screen reflection worse than expected on reviews that said would be as good using a 1000 or A1 which both are more to have the anti-reflective. Picture upscaling super impressive. Watched Rugby via analogue backfeed and main part of picture perfect only on text could you spot it was a crap signal. 4k is mind blowing good and a 720/1080 rip looks great as well.

OK, several weeks in and I can now say without reservation that this is the best TV I have ever viewed. Apology to my now deceased Panasonic plasma 65ST60, you were amazing, but not the best.

The colour and contrast on this television are beyond compare. I am still amazed every time I see a black image on this TV - it is black, black as, true black. And there is tremendous depth in all other colours. And all colours look real.

For HD input, picture quality is outstanding.

Rant over, I am in my happy place.

Wish i was in your Boat. Had the same 65ST60 but had it replaced under warranty with a 65DX700 which is pretty good but not fantastic. Definitely have an OLED on my wishlist. Glad you are enjoying your OLED. Im using your experience as ammunition for the missus to "Upgrade". The more Ammo i have the better.
