Compared prices using cheapest shipping (cos I'm cheap) in NZ dollars

(I don't have a Shield btw, just thought I'd mention it)

US power is 110V but generally it doesn't matter as most power supplies are 100V-250V anyway, but you should check, couldn't see anything about that off-hand.

Another option might be the Vero4k https://osmc.tv/vero/

Its made by the people that built OSMC (A free, dedicated port + customisation of KODI for raspberry pi and a couple of other hardware devices).

Looks like it would be around $210 NZD with free shipping from the UK.

To make it clear - this is not a Raspberry Pi - That wouldnt cope with 4k/HEVC as I understand it - but this device is specifically built for 4k/H265.

@sn (Sam Nazarko) is the founder of OSMC and has appeared a few times on GZ to answer questions etc - which is pretty impressive.

A device that runs OSMC/KODI would probably suit you quite well.

Ordered... got the stand too, $327.30 but went with cheapest shipping. I import for a living and find things tens to arrive a similar time no matter what option I select. Now I have to wait 2 weeks.. unacceptable hah.

Figured if I don't like it (unlikely from what I have read) I'll get my $$ back on Tardme

the reason i dont like vero4k is that its just running kodi. 10 years ago that would of been great, but now we need netflix etc. so nvidia shield tv is the way to go IMO.

With a great OLED set like that the best for Picture and Uncompressed Audio can only come from UHD Blu-ray. Even upscaled 1080P Blu-rays would look fantastic. You dont want to feed it anything less and always wonder whats possible.

100% agree, but unfortunately, the available content isn't flash at all, and being rural, heading down the video shop when I'm hanging with a lady friend or something kind of kills the mood haha

But yes, I 100% agree, i'm not sure if any HEVC content would/could even support HDR?

Another vote for the Vero4k. @sn is a pretty good guy also and the team is very quick on fixing issues.

You might be in luck then. In two weeks OSMC's test builds will have support for Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. It will need a bit of testing before it's ready for prime time (no pun intended) of course; but we're aware that we need to add support for more sources to the platform and that's exactly what we're doing. In 2017, the Shield still can't handle proper refresh rate switching, CEC, HD audio or deinterlacing. It will be good if you want Netflix now, but for good video playback, I'm not quite sure. Things may well improve in the future but I am unaware of how well NVIDIA respond to support and feature requests.

Looking for a replacement for my flaky WDTV - all my media is currently on a local USB drive to that....

Attached storage is mounted automatically under /media and will also show up directly under Kodi sources.

Ethernet is 100Mbits which is enough for 4K. Gigabit is not always desirable (flow control)

HDR10 is supported. There were some experimental improvements, including dithering, but they are just about to come out of testing and be included in the next (and imminent) stable OSMC update.

Slightly OT, but I'd be interested in your feedback on your new Panny OLED, in particular, does the black frame insertion help or hinder picture quality for upscaled 1080p blu ray?

Hands down - get a Shield.

Just so damn reliable and 4k/HDR playback without breaking a sweat, all via in-built apps (Netflix, YT) and controlled by a remote.

(See other threads on here for more detail.)

PS: I prefer SPMC over Kodi as it will also playback HD Audio (Atmos/DTS:X) AND your library is also included in voice search which is well handy.
