Yup - degradation happens (sparkles) but it's when bandwidth becomes an issue with a specific cable / source.

It's nothing to do with the length of time a cable has been installed if all things are equal, however it's seldom that everything remains equal...

Connections corrode, cables twist in the wall / behind cabinets etc and HDMI ports get tweaked by overly heavy cabling + products being pushed against a cabinet due to overly tight install spaces.

I'm half way anticipating I should be fine with the new projector...if not, i'll just have to go through the inconvenience of having my plasterboard reopened.   Maybe it is a good chance to run a couple of extra speaker wires at the same time.....if 7.1 is worth the upgrade over 5.1? I'll research...

I'd go to 5.1.2 (ATMOS or DTS:X) over traditional 7.1 personally.

Didn't get answered so I'll ask Dunnesfella's question again. What projector are you getting? And where are you getting your 4K media to watch on it?
