Speaking of TCL, JBhifi have the 55" QLED X2 for $1736, I was eyeing up the Sony x9000e but now can't make up my mind on which to go for :/

The Sony should get Dolby Vision early in 2018 - it depends what you're after.

Main uses are gaming with a PS4 Pro and streaming Netflix & Plex through said PS4 Pro.

A friend made the mistake of getting the Sony Android TV a couple of weeks ago. Seems to take ages to start up (reminiscent of my Nexus 7) and has no browser built in but can be side loaded) or direct access to TVNZ On Demand.

I'm happy with a 50" tv so I'm pondering one of these:

LG 49UJ654V from HN for $899

LG 49UJ752T from JB for $998 (which is slight better model re LG) or

Samsung UA50MU6100SXNZ which is cheapest from HN at $898 (but available from JB and NL as well)

Any thoughts / favorites / suggestions? Thanks (and Merry Christmas).

Your friend might want to update it.

BTW... TVs these days aren't meant to be fully powered down, hence the time to boot.

Mine has a browser, and google play store, so finding apps is easy, unless you don't know what you're doing.

PS: Why do you need a browser on TV anyway?

I agree - using a PC / tablet / phone would be much easier. Re issues with apps apparently the TVNZ app is not available for Sony Android TVs but you can access their website via the app.

Q4 Sound is fine once you find the settings and fiddle with them.

That shouldn't even be a question!

I've had low to mid to plasma-range TVs for the last 8 years (from LG, Samsung, Sony, Panasonic) and NONE have EVER been worth turning the sound up on.

Current Sony KD-X8500C (4K tv) included.

Would maybe try the "speaker" on the Sony A1 OLED, but that's because the panel is a speaker.

Just me tongue-out

TCL must be special!

It's as though TV manufacturers cripple the sound just so you have to pay extra and buy a sound bar. What a brilliant idea!
