I purchased some new speaker cable mid last year, and was quite surprised at the cost. Ended up purchasing 12AWG cable from Ideal Electrical which was sold very well priced by the meter. So maybe try your local electrical supply company.

I checked with local electrical suppliers and cable was still $2 plus a metre for relatively stock cable.

I then checked TM and found cable at a discount and bought three rolls of it at $18 a roll for 30 metres at a claimed 80% off.

So I've come in under budget for what I want to do

The same role of speaker cable is selling at Jaycar for almost $90.

grolschie: Speaker cable? Pffttt! Power cable upgrades is where it's at:

A lot of 'average' people just don't appreciate the finer things in life nor do they comprehend the high cost of snake oil (key component in these high end audio accessories)

Alas i'm too poor but i have always wanted to upgrade my amplifier's volume knob to the Silver Rock Signature Knob made from turned beechwood in C37 lacquer, apparently USD485 very well spent on getting the purest sound

Super cheap auto speaker cable works fine for me. Extension cable from Mitre 10 is cheap and would be fine with the plugs chopped off. If you want better audio quality just tape a few digital clocks to it :P

Check what size of cable you actually received. The Jaycar extra heavy duty cable is slightly bigger than 2.5mm2. So you would need to have a very powerful stereo system to require that size speaker cable.

Wouldn't be surprised if the speaker cable in the trade me auction is only cheaper due to it being a smaller size cable. Especially as that auction doesn't state a cable size.
