Wouldnt that passive 8800GT get too hot for a htpc build and therefore require a fan therefore making the fact that it is passive redundant? Does anyone here or that you know of have an 8800GT of any sort in an htpc?
Am also thinking of going 2GB of that RAM rather than 4. As mentioned, I can always upgrade later. WOuld having 2GB over 4BG affect gaming?

Yeah if you get the air flow and heatsinks right you might be ok. I'm cooling an E8400 and a 8600GT with single 120MM fan runing at 700 RPM, The only other fan is the is powersupply fan so all in all it makes for a very quite system.
I used a Thermalright Ultra 120 which is basically the best CPU HS money can buy, that combined with a duct. I did a wee write up on my blog about if anyone's interested.

2GB is fine for gaming, however if you are planning to run Vista then a little more RAM would help. I'm running with 2GB on Windows XP and have a 8800GT (Leadtek Zalman fan model) and it's fine for gaming on a 22" monitor. I think that 8800GT that you mentioned would get very hot - I'm be inclined to aim for the 9600GT or just bite the bullet and buy a fan-based 8800GT.
