Sorry just had a thought. You are connecting it to the right jumper on the video card? There are normaly two. One of which is the plug for the fan (not used on passive).

There's the 3 pin header with the white plastic around it, and the two pin header, which is what I am connecting to.
Yip that’s the one. Sorry I am not sure what to suggest from here. Somehow you need to work out if it is a problem with the on board sound or the passthough.
I am not sure where you are located. If in the Wellington region then I would be happy for you to pop around with your video card put it in my media centre to see if it outputs sound as I have mine configured that way so know it works on my hardware otherwise not sure what else you can try.
