Chromecast is great only downsides are that you need to have good WiFi for it to work especially NZ apps like Lightbox and TVNZ. Need a device as a remote which is a pain especially having to go find a device. The connection drops often from the remote so the program will stream but can't stop or restart it from device. It can be a pain to use a DNS service on them has you do have to play in the router to make it work and in some cases have to buy a new modem in particular Telstra clear cable internet . Apple is the better option ethernet connection has a remote and has great selection for streaming. Neon is not on there which is a pain. I use both Chromecast and Apple but prefer the Apple TV. Roku is great but doesn't really support NZ content
My experience is a little different. Original Chromecast was a pain and I gave it away, but the current one works well for me, at least the one built into the Shield. I keep a Windows notebook next to my viewing position and I also use Chrome browser on that for casting. It works perfectly for me. Never had an issue of any kind. The notebook is on wi-fi but the Shield is wired LAN. Many sites I can only cast by mirroring the tab but they also work perfectly for me. Never had a hiccup of any kind with this set-up.

Just cancelled my Roku and ordered an Apple TV. Didn’t really want to but sounds like it’s going to be the smoothest to run, shame it costs 3 times as much.
Chromecast sounds like a major hassle having to cast from one device to another, I’ve got way too much clutter as it is.
Looks like kodi setup will be easy on Apple TV as well, whereas I never saw a straight forward guide on roku.
And of course it will arrive tomorrow. I keep promising myself I won’t buy another apple product and they keep sucking me in.
