Fascinating discrepancy in Sony's reply.
Maybe a silly worker there or there is an action coming.
If I were you I would hold on to it !!

I hope they include all purchases from release, its pretty sad not rewarding early adopters.

Yes, but Sony has proven to be sad in the past and New Zealand is apparently not an interesting market for them hence the offer only for Australia.
Well, with the downsurging economies and the Kiwi dollar falling and prices for Japanese electronics probably going up soon they will face a hard time. Also, the competition is zooming in. Why would I buy a V or W model if Panasonic makes a great offer with a free Freeview decoder. never mind the fact that Sony has it built in.

At least Sony's new pricing is not as bad as Sharps new TVs with HD tuner..
Will be interesting to see Samsung and Panasonics pricing when they come out..

I was talking on the phone to someone at Sony today and this subject was touched. Here is the official word I am authorised to pass:

"I would like to confirm that Sony New Zealand currently has no plans to run the same promotion as Sony Australia. We are separate Sony companies and are responsible for our own advertising and promotions in each of our markets. Our current promotions are listed at www.sony.co.nz/promotions.

There was a typo in an email to a MySony member (subsequently posted on Geekzone) which has caused the confusion and we have responded directly to that MySony member."

I hope this thread won't be closed off so we can continue to post after Sony starts the PS3 giveaways in NZ in month or two..

Sony NZ current promotion of $200 cash back is crap. You have to buy two items with in 28days.. Once again the Ozzies get the better deal..

Yep got an email confirming this today, oh well it's a shame I was seriously considering waiting to buy a Sony if this promo got off the ground but will just grab a Samsung Series 6 now.

My idea: go for the Panasonic Viera series. More bang for the buck.
I was today at Wellington airport and there were the Viera on display. Great TV's and at most resellers you get the Freeview box for free. If you extend that to Sony, you pay 900 $ for the inbuilt Freeview tuner. So clear case.

Were sorry to inform you but this post is incorrect. Sony New Zealand won’t have this promotion anytime soon but we have been informed that it is proposed for possibly next year. If you would like you can purchase a Bravia in Australia and get a free PS3 in Australia “ONLY” but understand that you wont be able to use the inbuilt digital tuner in New Zealand as its been tuned in for Australian broadcast “ONLY”. As previously stated Sony Australia and Sony New Zealand are different companys with different markets which require different marketing strategys from different marketing teams. Sony New Zealand has its own marketing team and Sony Australia has its own marketing team. Once again in New Zealand you won’t be getting a free PS3 if you purchase Sony Bravia, via a Sony Redemption any time soon.

Nit really. The case for having an integrated tuner is way better than a STB ad on. I know I've got a TV without a tuner and have an ad on STB. I have to use a universal remote to get them both to go correctly as using two remotes by the rest of the family is not going to happen. Nothing looks worse than TVNZ 1 anlaog feed in grainy Fatovision compared to the same Freeview feed.

oop im a little late into the game here, but i'll throw in my 2c anyway.

you would think this is a move by Australia to get rid of their large amount of PS3 40gb which will soon either have to take a price cut with the introduction of the 80gb or face bringing out the 80gb at a higher cost and risk people not buying them for the 40gb 'cheaper' alternative.

we all know sony is going to slow/stop the production of the 40gb hdd version (well stop putting 40gb hdds in) and they want to make people buy the bigger version (i imagine they are going to start to bring out more games on the blue-ray format, which means more HDD space a'la MSG4).

You wonder if Sony believes that because NZ is such a small market that phasing out the 40gb will be easily done without the need to 'give away stock' such as what they are doing in aussie?

If sony dont offer this package (which by all accounts it doesnt look like they will) why wouldnt the avid gamer buy the 40gb PS3 (which will probably be at a cheaper price) and replace the HDD with 320gb 2.5"? problem solved.

..... anyway thats my thoughts on the subject.

Sony could get the advantage on both their TV competitors and Microsoft by offering both as a package, but obviously their marketing team doesnt feel they need to.
