lookout:

Mspec:

Gambit: @mspec that would've been great thanks but not to be sadly.I see AV world has a couple of good deals on Pioneers at the moment but will hold off for a while and put up with tiny tv speakers:(
I'm thinking of possibly selling the amp just to get something for it as someone who knows what they're doing could get a great deal when its repaired.
Be a shame to chuck it in the wheelie bin.

Maybe change the direction of your thinking, We had the full AV setup in our lounge and one night a massive power surge fried it and our tv.

Upgraded the TV to a new OLED (my god what an amazing upgrade) , but instead of an amp setup I got a really decent sound bar. Could not go back to an AV setup now the simplicity of the sound bar is fantastic and the sound is so much better than I would ever thought a sound bar could be. Would be worth a look just going in and checking some out.

Which soundbar did you get? A few years ago, when I was looking, soundbars definitely did not compare to a basic 2.0 or 2.1 setup. I figured they would eventually catch up in sound quality.

I got a LG SK10Y , only because I bought an LG tv and it all pairs just perfectly. I honestly don't miss the full avr setup at all.

I do have to hand it to TV manufacturers...

Make TV's with completely crap sound so that punters have to buy another one of their products to get good sound... but as they couldn't make a decent sounding TV to begin with, why go with them?

The big TV brands have certainly been on a buying spree lately to get some audio 'cred'...

LG buying Meridian

Samsung buying Harman / Arcam etc

Panasonic buying Technics

TCL licensing Onkyo for bars / headphones overseas etc.

Technics have been Panasonic since day dot. Are they branding TV's as having Technics audio now?

The sound became 'crap' when the panels became super thin.
You really cant accuse them of deliberately engineering bad sound though.

But then it's not like any manufacturer tried making a 6 inch thick panel with good sound versus a 1 inch thick model that needed an exterior sound system. As consumers we just had manufacturers deciding there was a race to the thinnest TVs.

Remember the old 26 inch console TVs (mono speaker) but plenty of solid sound?

What about those TVs that use the entire panel as a sound system? Aren't they supposed to be pretty good? They may only be demo or very expensive at the moment, but they show where the industry is headed.

The Sony OLED can work as a centre speaker, but it sounds hollow and echoey compared to a stand-alone centre.

I don't know of anyone who has ever used one as such, then again I also don't know of anyone who ever bought one of the subwoofers that mated with their TV's.

You're correct!

They did close it down a while ago for our part of the world, but then resurrected it.

I remember going to Panasonic's museum in Japan but don't remember seeing any Technics products there (or in my photos).

So I'm going to probably put the amp on trade me to see if I can get something for it.Looking at getting a VSX 832 from Harvey Norman if they'll price match AV Worlds deal.
I assume they will?Does anyone have one of these?
Keen on the Strdn1080 by Sony but no jbhifi where I am and it's now back up to full price anyway :(

Thanks
