Watching Blu Ray version of Planet Earth via PS3 was very impressive, but not seen anything from Sky to match this.
I've read about people being able to see things in films they've not seen before etc etc

Am I expecting too much????

Your BluRay will be 1080p, broadcasts on SKy HD are 1080i max, so BluRay is still giving you double the frames

The difference is probably more in the bitrates where Blu-ray is more than double what broadcast TV is offering. TV One's Olympic coverage at true 720p50 beats the TV3 HD and Sky HD 1080i offerings hands down IMHO.

yes, most likely expecting too much. theres a myriad of Sky formats, not everything is even in 16:9, let alone HD. then there is the way the program was authored, let alone compressed down over the Sky broadcast. so seems like quite a big variance. Probably, like you, i was expecting to be thrown through the wall like a mini crashing past a couch, but not at all. ive just done the CRT to LCD, and then in a week done the new LCD TV, SKy digital (old skool) to SKy HDMi (true skool), ... and ...must say the flavour aint as minty as i had expected.

But picture quality definately richer and sharper, and then you see an HD authored movie on 3, or a sport chaneel cast in HD, and it is swimmingly rich and flavoursome.

definately at the stage of cutting new teeth than growing molars in terms of the HD right now.

Well, 1080p24 is really the same framerate as 1080i50. A movie encoded as 1080i50 can be output as the original 1080p25 by inverse telecine and you don't notice the speed differnence.

Well, I played with multiple cables last night (much to my wife's chagrin) and I have managed to get it working a lot nicer. I found buried in my DVD recorder settings, the option to turn on Progressive Scan. The difference was quite noticeable (smoother pictures from Sky and much better DVD playback quality).
