Regards,
Old3eyes
My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.
hairy1: My initial impressions after install this afternoon:
- User interface is unchanged apart from a colour scheme change.
- Movies = improvement. Am waiting to see Spiderman 3 later this afternoon. 5.1 sound is great.
- Sports = Significant improvement. The league replay on Sky Sports 2 looks completely different! Big thumbs up!
- The modem works over VFX. The mysky 2 dialled home earlier on.
- As far as I could tell, no change to the LNB. No new cable was run. That will be done at a later date.
Cheers,
Matt.

mhz: How long did it take them to install it from arrival to depature?
JonoNZ: ... but my initial impression is that Freeview don't have too much to worry about. ...
suthland:
installer said this was his first HD install & only one for the day?
Several GZers have asked about HD over component so I did a test:
MySky box connected to TV via component cable with HD video set to pass through mode.
TV3, SM1 & SMG are 576/50i. SS1 & SS2 are 1080/50i, so I guess the ICT flag is on for the first three.
With HDMI connection all five are 1080/50i. So are Sky recording their sports in 1080i, or are they upscaling from 720p?

So much to learn, so little time.

AncestralGeek:
Hopefully my instal does not require any cable work which will make it weather independent.
Forgot to mention the installer said they haven't got the dual core cable in stock yet so were told to just install the boxes meantime - I think he breathed a sigh of relief. He is not looking forward to trying to get a run of dual core down the same wall cavities as the present single core. Unlike MySky 1 boxes the new one has only one cable connected, the other three connectors will be left empty until new satellites come on stream. All switching is done inside the box.

hmm thats very interesting, so sky movies 1 and 2 was in 576i over component?? I know that Channel 9 recorded cricket in 720p but upscaled to 1080i as you can see with this picture a friend in Aussie sent me earlier this year:

What I'm wondering is whether Sky are getting a 720p signal, then upscaling and interlacing it, only to have either my box or tv downscale and de-interlace it because it is only 720p? Even those with 1080 tv's lose the benefits of progressive scanning.
